what is the problem? that she is upside down? She hasn't figured out it is too hot? My chameleon would do that but instantly shy away from the heat. Are you afraid of a burn? turn the light off!!

All of the chameleons I've had that weren't babies when I got them did this when I first introduced them to their new enclosure. I don't know why, but it took about a week for them to stop doing it. And they will know when to get away, like I said, the past three chameleons I've purchased did this, and they didn't get burnt.

i had her for over a week today marked a week....the uvb is in a black civer i took it down for the pic

How long has she been doing it though? I mean't that mine always do it for about a week. Then don't do it anymore.

I would worry about a burn more than her eyes. If you see her doing it, just turn off the light or remove it, that's what I would do. For whatever reason, they will hang from the ceiling of the cages when you first get them. Mine actually slept upside down for a few days hanging from the top! Maybe it's just nerves but they get over it. Also, your vine looks awfully close to that basking light. Is it on the side of it, or directly under it? If under, that is way too close. Even on the side she looks too close to the light.

I too think she is probably just getting to know her new home...exploring all aspects of it. I have noticed that most of my juveniles go through an upside down phase at some point. I wouldn't worry unless you think she is going to get burned. How much time is she spending directly under the light?

the vine is in front of it .... the other vine is below it which is lower, i had her for a week today shouldnt she be calmer then usual.....

ok, as long as her body does not touch the hot screen. I saw that you had the vine lowered in the one spot. Every chameleon is different. Is there anything that might be stressing her out some in the room? Mine settled in pretty much after about 4 or 5 days, but again not every cham is the same and there is no set time that they will totally adjusted. Just try and give her some more time and look around and make sure there is nothing that could be bothering her. Do you have any other animals in the house?

yes carol i have 5 chams 7 adult beardies 65 babies and 37 eggs plus a pittbulll and 3 kids lol , and my one male cham is like 20-30' across room but i got a towel up blocking them from seeing in , but she still quite dark i dnt think she can see him though

omg! You have your own private zoo going on there! My chameleon is in the same room with my cockatiel but does not even flinch from that bird. I don't have him in the room all day though. He spends alot of time free ranging on my patio. Sounds like you are an experienced keeper then! Sorry, I thought it was your first and only cham. Didn't any of your other chameleons act this way when you got them? Most everyone seems to experieince the "on the ceiling" routine. i rememer my breeder telling me it was quite normal when I questioned her about it.

You might consider putting some distance between the basking lamp and the top of the screen to help avoid a burn. I understand they're better able to detect heat from their backs so if she's upside down she might not be able to sense the tempeture correctly and get a burn more easily. Once she calms down you could bring the lamp down closer if needed. I use a clamp on my lamp to keep it aware from the screen just incase.

Temp vs. Wattage..

so what is a preferred wattage

It's not so much about wattage as it is achiving the correct temp use use a higher wattage ect to achive a higher temp if your temps are low and vice versa a lower watt if you need to get your temps down a bit. Did you read the link Jannb provided above? If not take some time to do that Jannb knows what she is doing with the Veilds... so don't hesitate to take advise form her she is a good source. ;)

That I think is why Jannb may have ask how you are checking your temps... what are you using to check temps at various locations in the cage?
