Female veiled chameleon looks ill

Hi,
have a 3 year old Female yemen chameleon, we have only had her 6 months but we have known her all her life as she was passed on to us by a friend.
her normal diet is around 5 locusts per day and wax worms/ crickets once a week she has her calcium dust, and all our insects are gut loaded before feeding with gut loading powder I bought from my local reptile shop.
she has a waterfall which is on during the day and we mist the cage twice a day to create humidity.

Before we got her, she had a calcium deficiency when she was young due to incompetent pet shop who told my friend the wrong information whilst she bought my chameleon, her legs became jellified and she went through operations to have them fixed (they are now fine but slightly disfigured)
recently she cut her tail and she lost the tip due to an infection (treated by the vet)

That's basically all about Pascale my chameleon, if you need information on her cage I will happily give it.
Recently she has been sitting at the bottom of her tank, she's not climbing or eating much at all, she normally has a huge appetite when we feed her locusts (we have tried other food and she refuses this as well) she's eating around 5 a week, she's eating worms though.
Her colours are fine (sharp and vivid), she isn't dull at all. When we open her cage she seems to quickly climb up so we get her out and then she's extremely active when she is out (she seems fine when out of her environment). Her temperature is fine and she has plenty of artificial plants and climbing vines logs etc. she's on a pete surface.
She honestly doesn't look well whilst she's inside her cage and i'm unsure what to do it seems silly taking her to the vet when shes only sat on the bottom of her cage, but I know Pascale and this isn't her normal self.

Many thanks in advance.

Is it possible that she is getting ready to lay eggs? Female chams lay eggs without mating. She needs to have a laying bin set up. Search that on the forum for information on setting it up.

She only laid recently (around a month ago) for her first time, she also isn't gaining weight. Last time she laid she didn't eat at all and she was digging in her tank which is how we noticed she was trying to lay. I don't think this is what she's currently doing to be honest :)

You should get rid of the waterfall. They don't need it and they don't consider it a drinking source.

Sitting on the bottom of the cage for prolonged periods of time is definitely a bad sign.

What is the gutloading powder called? It's usually not recommended that commercialized products be used - how do you really know what they're getting? You're much better off just sharing your groceries with your locusts.

What do you have going on for UVB lighting?

Do you have her in a glass enclosure? Do you let it dry out completely in between mistings? Another reason to get rid of the waterfall. With constant moisture, they can easily acquire a respiratory infection. These can progress to the point where it's too late, often require antibiotics to clear up, and the sooner you can treat it, the better the prognosis.

If anything, I'm thinking MBD, RI, or she has to lay.

Thanks Symphonica,

We got rid of the waterfall last night, due to reading that this isn't suitable for our chameleon.

The Gutloading Powder is called Repashis, but we also put in green vegetables along with this in the pens.

UVB is a repti-glo 5.0 also using a ceramic heat lamp her temperature is around 32oc

Yes she's in a glass enclosure, we mist her twice a day in the morning and at night.

My partner changed her cage around last night to see if she was just bored, this didn't seem to make much difference as she's currently back on the floor of her enclosure.

Would you suggest the vets then? I am worried about her as she hasn't done this, unless she was laying. She isn't digging or not eating totally, she's cut down on food but not cut it out so I highly doubt she's laying again. I hope she isn't as this can cause health impacts with her laying only a month ago is this correct?

Many Thanks for your help

I would say the vet for diagnostic measures is your best bet.

Is there a glass cover on the tank, between the UVB fixture and chameleon? Glass reflects UVB, so if there is, your cham isn't getting any of it.

Has she been checked for parasites lately via fecal exam?

Repashy's Bug Burger is one of the best commercialized dry powder gut loads.

If she's in a glass enclosure, are you letting her enclosure dry completely in between mistings?

What do you have for substrate in the bottom of your tank?

I ask because there could be a possibility of a respiratory infection, more common in chams kept in glass enclosures.

If you pick her up and put her on your arm/finger and flip her upside down, does she have the strength to hold on? If not, could be MBD.

i'll sort out getting her to the vet this week.

the UVB is in a overhead canopy the viv is glass but the top is mesh.

No we haven't had a parasite exam, we only visited the vets a couple of months ago, we explained that we just got her and we didn't know what she needed, she spoke to me about everything except the parasites. so I have no idea but i'll get that sorted

she's on coconut fibre (Zoomed terrarium substrate) for her substrate, she has been on bark, moss everything but she seems to be happier whilst on coconut fibre.

Yes we let the tank dry before misting again

I will get her out soon and check her strength and let you know.

Thanks

Hi there,
Sorry about your cham! Don't use any substrate on the bottom! They can be impacted if they pick up a peace with the feeder accidentally. Or the substrate can stuck in their eye. I think I can say, most of us don't have any in the enclosure.
I hope you can figure out soon what's the problem with her!

Ok, Thanks Guys

I'll get the substrate out, she's started to go under her artificial plants now, as if she's hiding herself.

I hope we can get this sorted too! She's amazing and we'd be lost without her.

I know how you feel! Didn't you put something new in her enclosure lately what she could be afraid of?
