Female veiled questions

Just curious about a couple of things about my girl.
After seeing so very many pics of lady veileds, it seems that they have some coloring to them. Every now and then mine shows some dark lines and today I saw a slight hint of aqua in her crest, but other than that she stays green. Do some female veileds not have coloration?
Also wondering if there’s any way to determine her age. I can only measure her body and that’s about 5 inches.

She doesn’t turn black. Her dark stripes seem to show the most when she’s basking or when I have to open her door. I believe they do darken a bit when basking to better absorb the heat...correct?

Any ideas on how old she may be? I got her a month ago from my stepdaughter, who said a few months before she got it as a baby from some kid at school. Stepdaughter is extremely vague in her answers.

Yes they will darken when they are basking to absorb heat but this might also be happening to show she’s stressed. If I even look at my female she’s will puff up and let me know how she feels about me. So training for my future daughter I guess lol

Thanks much! Yes, she too puffs when I look at her...and hisses and tries to bite if I get too close while feeding or misting. So much attitude in such a small creature!

Females don’t have too much color by about 8-11 months is when she’ll have her adult colors. My female has a lot of yellow lime green dark green nice blues and some other darker colors when she’s pissy

Yes veiled chameleons are known for there attitude.

Also since you have a female idk if you know this or not but she will lay eggs even when not mated. They are like chickens. Here is a link to laying bins and female care

Agreed, 6-7 months. But growth rates vary so much it’s impossible to know for sure. And honestly it’s irrelevant, in the way we think of age anyway.

All that really matters is what stage of development she is in, in your case sub-adult. Not sexually mature yet but on the verge.

Brodybreaux, where she is in maturity is exactly what I wondering. Not knowing this, I have a lay bin ready and have been vigilant for any signs she may be ready for it to go into her enclosure. Now I know I can downgrade from vigilant to just alert. Lol.

Your in no danger of eggs until after she displays this coloration for about a week.

I’d also encourage you to make her lay bin a permanent part of her viv. This eliminates the guessing game of when she’s ready and the stress caused by moving her into it.
