Hi, so my (around 5 month old) female veiled last week showed signs of having to lay her eggs (not eating, egg shapes near her tail, wandering at the bottom of her enclosure, etc).
so i decided to prepare her laying bin using some soil (i dont have access to playsand)
i predug a tunnel in the soil, which she seems to have continued digging.
that was 5 days ago, she still hasnt laid her eggs, she still continues to dig that same tunnel
she doesnt eat (hasnt eaten for 5 days), but still drinks water, and now she seems to have lost her vision :( (one of her eyes has been shut since yesterday, and her other eye is still open, but she seem to not see where she is going anymore)
ive been trying to call vets around my area, but none of them know how to deal with chams :(
her color seems normal, light green, with a few stripes and dots
ive been misting her hoping she just needs to get it cleaned
is there something else i could try?
please help :(

I am sorry to her about your girl. I keep veileds and love them dearly. The girls are just so sweet! I am very sorry to say that the only hope, if she is egg bound, is a good reptile vet that knows chameleons. If she is egg bound she will need surgery right away to remove the eggs. I would search everywhere for a good vet and get her there right away. I drive over 4 and 1/2 hours one way to my chameleon vet.

If she's still digging there it may be that she's not quite ready yet. Does she see you when she's digging? If so she may abandon the hole. If it happens often enough it can lead to eggbinding...so give her privacy when she's digging.

Here's the way it should go....
When a female needs to lay eggs, she will dig a hole all at once or over several days or may dig several holes but should finally pick one and keep digging it until she is happy with it. She should then turn around, butt down, usually in the evening and lay the eggs. This can take a few minutes or a few hours. She should then fill in the hole and tamp it down and return to the branches hungry and thirsty.

What are you using for her to dig in? It might be causing the eye issues.

im using damp soil since i dont have access to playsand.
i made it not too wet and not too dry (i read somewhere it should be sorta like ice cream texture), the tunnels seem to be holding up well, but her face does get all muddy after. i mist her until she is clean.
do you think soil got into both her eyes? ive been misting her regularly hopng that she could get it cleaned herself, but she doesnt seem to be opening her eye anymore, while her other eye is still opened and not moving, she seems to fall from branches due to not being able to see
will using saline solution have a better chance of fixing her eyes?

Well, the sterile saline solution will help flush her clean her eyes more easily. And, the saline will be more comfortable than plain water. The saline won't treat an eye infection (if it is present), but it will help flush any soil out.

hi guys.. so my female veiled died this morning... i tried my best.. i really did... i called all the vets here and none of them could cater to her..
i already extracted the eggs..
what could i do now? is there any chance that the eggs could be fertile? she was kept with a male veiled for a few months before being in separate cages (but it was when she was 4 months old or else)
what is the best way to incubate? (assuming i dont have access to vermiculite)
