Okay. It was....about 3 weeks ago I tried mating my male and female veileds. I say tried because they did their....chameleon thing.....and I don't know if the eggs are fertile. I have the eggs in perlite at the low 80's for temp. I tried getting vermiculite since it's higher recommended, but perlite was all that home depot had left. Any help would be amazing.

Don't worry about changing to vermiculite. There are people here who use perlite with great success. As for your temps, they are too high. I would keep them in the range of 72-75.

If the eggs are not fertilized, they will go bad in about a weeks time, there's no mistaking it. They will turn yellowish and get all fuzzy. If they look good for a few weeks than they are more than likley good.

Awesome. And I'll be sure to drop the temps. So just thinking about it I counted and she laid 53 eggs. I believe last time she laid 52. Might that make any difference?

Won't make any difference. I keep my incubator at 78 degree's, which in turn keeps the eggs around 82 degree's. This has been working out great for me! Good luck!

I've heard of incubating in the 80's and at room temp. I did the first clutch in the incubator at 80 and now I'm doing the current clutch at room temp. Supposedly doing them at room temp is better because they grow slower and stronger in the egg making them healthier babies. This is why I am doing each clutch different, to see if I notice a difference:) BTW the first clutch of babies seemed fine to me. Have fun with your eggs...and babies!

Okay. It's been about a month later and only one egg has shriveled up and molded. I have them in two containers, with 26 in each. One container has whiter eggs than the other. Any particular reason? And how developed should they be by now?

I'm keeping them around 78* throughout the day and night.
