hey ive been reading alot about how chams eat fruit flys, i have a 4 month old and he is a little small for his age, not yet showing all his yellows or orange. would he like fuitflys ?
Your 4 month old would probally love them as a treat. My 2 month old absolutley loves them they are the only feeder I've found so far that she gets excited about. I just ordered 2 big cultures off ebay and am awaiting their arrival.
thanks, how would you house them ? and transfer then to you cham cage ?, theres alot of thos elittle flys in tere id ecspect and i hate when they are all over my house
they come in a cup. When you're ready to feed them off you just smack the bottom of the cup and they fall down. then you just pour them in the cage. Its pretty easy.
The fruit thing didn't work for me, they go where they want. The only thing that really sucks is you can't really put dust on them cuz as soon as you dust them and dump them in the cage they sit there and clean themselves before they start moving.
okay i should purchase a few of those, whats a reasonable amount to get and do you know anybody that ships to canada or even a local place in ontario ( brampton)
Don't know anything about the United States Hat (Canada) but I get small cultures from petsmart and I just got my big cultures that look a lot better from ebay seller Junart79. You might as well go and get at least one to try it out, my cham loves them. Just so you know you need to let them sit for about a week until you see the maggot things starting to move around in the bottom before you start feeding off. Ohh and I use D. Hydei they are the larger flies.
mites love ff cultures', every ff culture i have ever got from petco or petsmart had mites in it, including one i got just recently, i will never buy ff from petco or petsmart again.i talked to the petco supplier who assured me that their cultures are mite free when they go out but said the problem is that petco always keeps their cultures next to the crickets. there are several ff sellers on ebay and junart79 is the only one that guarantees them mite free. recently got a culture from junart79 to supplement the existing culture that i usually keep going. i did macroscopically inspect it when i got it, and it was in fact mite free. i dont know what is in their media, but i have tried most commercially available and most homemade media and the media from junart is in my opinion the best, it doesnt smell or mold as readily as most other and it has a good rate of return. remember that if you are dumping cultures that have mites then you are also dumping mites. if you ever notice your chams rubbing their eyes on the plants after dumping ffs it is probably because of mites. you can get a 30x handheld viewer at radio shack for about $15 that works great for spotting mites. jmo
