Finding chameleons on Oahu.

My almost 5 year old son is obsessed with catching lizards and geckos, and good at it, but he’d flip if we found and caught a chameleon. We’ve searched for them on the last couple hikes we did but never saw one. We’re going tonight with flashlights to Tantalus and maybe another spot on the windward side, after doing a little research. This will be our first night hunt. Does anyone have any suggestions for locations? I’ll follow up with tonight’s results later. Wish us luck!

Thanks! I appreciate it. The Ko’olau Range is like 50% of the island though. I’m trying to narrow it done to known “hot spots,” where people always see or catch these guys.

So we had no luck tonight. We searched a spot along Tantalus and Kapa’a Quarry Road. I hear Maunawili is a good one and Waimanlo. We may hit them up next time

Really nice of you what are you doing with your son! Hope you find some next time.. I’m from Serbia so I have no idea how to find chameleons just wanted to say that your adventure is awesome for sure!
