First Timer: Adult Panther Male Setup Help

Hello guys,

After my rocky start I am working down the path of acquiring my chameleon at the end of the month.

Right now I am digging into all the appropriate information and looking at his to be setup right now i figured it would be good to pick all of you veteran's brains.

Cage, lighting, pants, misters etc.

First is the cage and I was looking at diy cages (namely the 48*24*24 or the c4) and I was wondering since I heard he is a lover or being out of his cage maybe a 36*24*24 or so would be appropriate?

As for misters would I be able to get away for about a month with doing hand misting? Until I buy a good one from mistking or of the like.

Yes, hand spraying is fine depending on the humidity level in the room and how long you are gone during the day. If you are around enough to keep the cage humidity where it should be, the auto mister is a convenience.

About his temperament....he's depleted, undernourished, maybe sick, and probably not behaving completely like he normally would. As he improves he may get a bit feistier or more territorial. Hard to say. Just don't assume his personality or his tolerance for activity around his new cage will be that way permanently. I would use the larger cage unless he's so weak he's unable to climb around it....he'll appreciate it from day one and it may stimulate his wellbeing.

Good to know. I see 48*24*24 as the basic and must for a full adult so that is what I will go for. As for my availability I will be around every day all day as I am a stay at home dad and my wife works. A mister will be a need to get for regularity and on the small times we are away from home.

Basically I assume I need to create a good source of dew drops on the leaves and to keep his humidity at a good level. I live in western Washington near the Idaho border and we are dry all year in terms of humidity. Rarely does it get past 15% in the air.

And I gotcha on the temperament I cannot assume he will stay the way he is now, if so great, if not it won't change the care or love.

I like cages that are wider.

Hand misting is okay, but I really think an automatic mister is a necessity. But, yes, you can do hand misting. Make sure you have live plants in the cage to increase humidity and give them cover to hide in.

Yes, real plants all the way (save maybe a cloth vine or two).

The misting will be temporary, I do plan to get a mister. Just for maybe a month will I do the misting by hand.
