flagellates and flagyl

So I have been poking around the forums for a bit and haven't found what I am looking for. I just had a fecal done and my panther has loads of little flagellates swimming around. He is CB and all feeders have been store-bought. I am just trying to figure out what to do now. I need to get my hands on some flagyl obviously, but I am very poor (i.e. can't really afford a vet visit for a prescription). Anywhere I can get this cheap online? I was also just curious about how extreme I need to be about keeping him from getting these again. Do I need a new setup for him or can I just clean the one he is in now? Unfortunately, like I mentioned earlier, I am low on funds. I want to care for him properly, but cheaply Any advice is welcomed.

I did a quick google search for you and it looks like the generic of flagyl is available to buy online.

If you have the fecal done, did you ask how much the meds were for it? Or did you just drop off his poopies? My exotics vet only charges 25$ for a checkup, then I would end up paying whatever the meds would cost. Where in CA are you?

Anyways here is the site that came up to buy some but who knows the dosage ....anyway you can ask a family member to spot you some $$ or I know a lot of vets have different types of payment options you can look into.

I wouldn't want to trust myself with giving him the correct dose what if you give him too much or something?

A friend actually ran the fecal for me, but probably can't get me the meds. The vet wanted $70 for a visit, and I think it was another $20 or so for the fecal. I live in Sacramento. The lack of exotic vets here is saddening.

Dang 70$ I know the pain...I'm in college and paid 500$ for one of my bunnies with a runny nose. Can you just call the vets and ask for a prescription? I don't know if they do this, just was a suggestion.

Yeah I'm a grad student as well. Stuff always comes down to money. Boo. No vets won't give prescriptions without seeing the animals. Too many liabilities.

Your right Veterinarians must see the pet to write or give out a prescription due to liability. Not only that.... even if they see the pet and you do not get the medication at their office.... veterinarians can and many do charge to write the prescription.

@ Lintini, Also as far as bunnies go... if you can find a farm vet they can treat them much cheaper.

Some types of flagellates are harmless. I would save up for a vet to do the fecal to ID the micro fauna before shotgunning some meds.
