i just lost about 500 adult crickets overnight.i was keeping them downstairs a few days n they dying very fast ,a week before i got my dogs flea collars n the one dog is always shaking her head from time to time .

can the poison in zodiac flea collars kill crickets if a dog shakes her head 1-3 ft from a cricket cage?

iv had this happen to me but a thousand crickets in day and abit , i never actaully found proof of what it was but i think it might have been parasites or mold from the fruit i give them , i ended up just washing there container prety good with baking soda and sunlight dish soap and now i just wash it out every three days and they've been fine ever since so try givin it a good wash , it could be the collars fault though but i personally don know , sure is a pain in the BACK!! side but good thing they died and were not feed to your chams

hmmm....I haven't had an animal that needed a flea collar for many, many years (my cats stay indoors, plus they (the collars) creep me out) but I know they used to have a powdery chemical on them that I suppose would fly off when a dog shakes his head (probably wants the collar off! ;) I would also guess that they could easily kill your crickets if it consistently landed on them & their food. They are insects and the chemical is an insecticide. How long had you had the crickets? Was the dog collar the only thing that had changed in your setup? If so, then it is the likely culprit. You might want to find a better location for them. If not, then as boothy said, it could have been a crappy batch to begin with or you may have introduced something via food, but usually an entire colony won't die all at once unless they are pinheads. Hope you figure it out.
