hi im from uk and wnt to try some flys out for my cham he is 10 months old wht ones shall i get fruit flies? just wnt bit of advise ws gonna try get some from round house bt dont know if safe?

i feed fruit flies to my baby ambanja, but they are so small, i dont know how that would work with your ten month old. he would have to eat a ton of them.

well if you were thinking fruit flys chances are your cham wont bother with them, he might be too big
as for house flys if its a occasonal thing i dont see it as a problem but insects from around the house can have pestisdes so be carefull with it

you can buy ' Drosophila hydei sturtevant ' witch are larger and still flightless im not sure exactly how much bigger they are tho.. iv only tryed the smaller 'Drosophila melanogaster ' witch are the size of a small ant(great for frogs)

Hi,
You can try buying house fly pupa or larva. They are bigger. There is also a blow fly that is bigger yet. I have gotten pupa from spiderpharm.com and grubco.com has larva. Don't know about shipping to the UK though
What kind of chameleon are you feeding, because even these could be too small.

If you can find blue bottle fly larvae (maggot's) they are MUCH larger than regular house flies. A young healthy veiled will eat probably 30 of them a day. Try to find the maggot's instead of the pupae. The pupae will all hatch at once and then you'll have to take care of 500 or so flies. They live about 30 days. If you can find the maggot's, they will live in your fridge for a few months. When you want some flies, pull out what maggot's you want and they will pupate in a day or two and hatch into flies about 5 days later. I get my maggot's from grubco.com and pupae from mantisplace.com. I don't know if they will survive a trip to the UK though. I hear the maggot's won't take the extreme cold experience in flight very well. Good luck with it. BTW...Chams go nuts for flies. David

i wonder if chams would eat dragon flies, they don't look to be nutrionally valuable but jesus christ how fun would that be to watch, those are the most aerodynamic flying species in the entire world, and the only living creature that can hover into a backwards roll, i love it

Yes, they can eat them. There were some pretty good threads on here last winter about this. Might be able to do a search and locate the threads.
