I am putting in new floor covering in my cham hospital room - I kinda want carpet, it is much warmer in the cold Ohio winters then a bare floor, but the water issues if a flood happens  and dirt I know would be harder to clean, and if you have ever dropped a film canister of "prepared" fecal - EWWW :p and it is also the same room the newborn/critical care babies are in at times who come from the rescue as it has all the IV hooks and things - Vinyl would be alot easier to keep clean I think - but the down side is again the cold floor in winter - the drain table is heavy, and huge - not sure if it will poke holes in it or not- the room is empty right now, so its the best time to do this- just not sure what to put down- what do you have on your floor ?

have you considered using a heated floor? you can lay your vinyl or tile right over it. we did this in our bathroom and kitchen. Keeps the floor nice and warm. it is more expensive but in the long run well worth the extra price.

I did think of that - but I THINK we will be selling our cabin in a yr or so -
the kids are mostly grown, one gone- the other chomping at the bit to fly the nest :( lol - and we dont need all the land now- no more horses - so I dont really want to put that kind of money down, and then leave it -

I've seen peel and stick vinyl tiles at the dollar store. We are thinking of using them in a camper truck floor, and our friends used it in their trailer as well. Looked good. Cheap and easy, and should last for the remainder of your time at the house.

I have peel and stick vinyl tile in my cham room. Easy to work with, and the few times I've had water leaks, it didn't hurt it. I plan on using click and lock vinyl planks in the rest of the basement. If I were you, I'd go with vinyl and put down an area rug where you'll be standing or walking. That way it's easier to clean or replace should you have an issue.

ETA:
If you use peel and stick, get a vinyl adhesive tile primer. It's cheap, and made a big difference in making the tile stick to bare concrete. I'll look at the bottle I used when I get home tonight, so I can give you a brand name.

As far as the heavy table, you can put those plastic furniture sliders under the feet to try to spead the weight a little.

Do both! You can use an area rug or some mats on top. Lots of people see carpet as a negative and another project when looking at a potential house, so you won't turn off potential buyers.

yeah, I think I am going to go with a full sheet of vinyl, and then an area rug- best of both worlds :D now.........color :p the walls are well, wood- lol so my colors can only come from the floor, and one wall - but looking forward to the project, and also adding a sink :)
