Fluxlizard's Baby Melleris

Kevin, Renee is SO going to kill you. You already have like.... 12? Talk about hogging all the melleri.

I have... 7..... lol but I do have 12 chams plus 9 babies.

one more youngin won't hurt..... :D

7? 12? There is no difference. After 3 or 4, then you are just obsessed (and some would call you weird). And of course I speak from experience....;) Yeah, one more won't hurt, especially since it's so small.....:p

sorry 12 chams total... 7 of them are melleri... If I am going to do this I am gonna have to put Jake and Fred outside.... which shouldn't be an issue because the night time lows haven't gone much below the upper 50's the last couple of weeks.

You might as well just do it. You will never get another mellers like these.:D

lol hey now.... there are a few of us out here trying to breed....

Did you get one Laurie?

Can someone tell me why people buy pairs from the same clutch, if this is their first melleri?

Yes but I said another one like these. Both you and Julie are breeding for great mellers & i expect you to deliver. And there will never be another one like your or like Julie's :D:D:D:D:D

No I still haven't bought one. I really worry about the space issue. How fast do the little buggers grow? As I work toward my montanes, I hope to build a free range for a mellers but that is 18 to 24 months away. Might need to wait for your babies.;) How many of fuxlizard;s babies are left - does anyone know?

DUMB!!! (not a popular answer but a true one):p

I still don't know how to do multiple quotes!!!! or can you tell?

I still don't know how to do multiple quotes!!!! or can you tell?

when you quote a post and want to insert bits into it... you need to remember to use the BBcode..... when you quote someone you'll see the [uote=summoner12.... and some numbers... and at the end you'll see [/quote.... copy that quote part at the end and paste it after the part you want to post under, write out your reply, then copy the first quote part of the code after your comment. then your reply will look like this:

[quote="laurie, post: 382855"] I want to have melleri but needs to work it out first[/QUOTE]

That is very smart many people should have this thought process before jumping into them

well thanks, kevin, I am a considerate person of these animals

Yes, I know and I am thankful of this!

I want to know you experiences about inbreeding, line crossing melleris sibling. mellerimaniacos greetings

I bought a pair of these CB meller's, however it is not for the reason to breed them with each other but to breed them to wild caughts or other CH/CB melleri on day. At least having 2 CB ones provides me with some insurance that they are already acclimated and with be alot more comfortable around me earlier in life. In the next few months I plan to start buying smaller wild caught melleri so I can have animals around the same age and to ensure that the giant wild caughts won't die of old age before my little guys are sexually mature.

This is very smart! Good luck:D

I purchased a few of Flux's babies but I also have a lot of CB melleri eggs incubating and it is my intention to breed his with mine (or with one of my others that I currently have).

Good question. Meller's are social animals and our experience has been that they are healthier when another Meller's is around. Since there are so few captive hatched babies available people end up buying 2 from the same source. They're not really buying breeding pairs since no one can tell one gender from the other for some time.

There are several options once the animals are mature. As subadults you can move them to separate cages, introduce them to eachother every once in a while, and observe their behavior closely. Hopefully they will show gender-related behaviors. If not, you would need to keep them apart.

If you are able to determine their gender by their behavior, and they are 2 different genders then create 2 free ranges with 2 separate breeding groups. Or trade one of the animals to someone with a sexed animal from a different bloodline. If they are the same gender, like 2 females, then purchase a sexed male to go with them. If they are 2 males then purchase a couple sexed females to go with them.

Our supplier determines their sex (won't tell us how) before we purchase them and they have never been wrong yet.

To the person who inquired about linebreeding:

Not enough melleri have been produced that linebreeding has occurred, to the best of my knowledge. To date, breedings have tended to be singular events and repeat breedings are very rare.

I am unaware of any hatchlings from cb + cb breedings yet (I am unaware of a lot of things come to think of it LOL maybe it has happened numerous times and I'm ignorant). If that's the case, I would attribute it to lack of available cb hatchlings rather than difficulty getting them to reproduce. Either way, these guys don't come along very often and I doubt multi-generational breeding has occurred much yet, if at all.

I think the recent success and interest in melleri is giving some the wrong impression- breedings and CB babies are still very uncommon, whether in the USA or anywhere else.

To the person who inquired about people buying more than one individual from the same clutch:

There have been only 2 individuals so far who have done this from the clutch I am currently offering, and both of them are experienced with chameleons and have stated their reasons on this thread. There have been some other good reasons explained as well (social reasons, difficulty sexing).

I would just point out that not everyone who intends to breed keeps a single pair, and not everyone who keeps 2 or more chameleons intends to breed.

Very well stated FluxLizard. Both of my little ones eat together, drink together, occasionally share a basking spot, and they always sleep either face to face on one branch or next to each other on closely adjacent branches. I know many people keep melleri individually but mine are getting along good so far and I hope to keep it that way until they are bigger and older and I can take them to the vet to be sexed and then living arrangements will be adjusted if need be. I personally will try my hardest to get these two to produce babies(not by each other of course) but with other melleri like I previously stated. My reasoning is basically because meller's have been the chameleon I have always wanted but I don't care for wild caught animals because of the general health problems I have had with wild caught panthers in the past. I believe if more melleri were being produced alot more people would realize how amazing they are and would attempt breeding and possibly slow down the importation of them where the majority come in sick or dyeing and don't live very long unless they go into the hands of people who care alot about them and there aren't all that many dedicated meller's keepers out there. I hope to be one of the ones with 2 free ranges for my meller's when they are of size and have mates. Getting just one never crossed my mind, if I would have had more money I would have for sure gotten a few more. It is just a rare opportunity that I could not pass up.

Melleri are my favorite species of chameleon and I do not intend to breed. I purchased one of these rare cb melleri so I can watch it grow and know any and all health issues that may arise. My last melleri was 1 1/2 yo when I bought her and I did not know her underlying health issues which made it difficult to treat her. I do intend to acquire more for the mere fact that they are social, magnificent and a perfect cham to free range.

is interesting that some years later be seen only CB, and wild not import wc. breeders the subject of sex is interesting to determine.. jeje.what their shape when baby? dificult to much..
