fly larva

I am getting some fly larva from LindasGoneBuggie. This will be my first time using fly larva. What's the best way to gut load?

Are they bottleflies? I put all the maggots in a deli cup with holes. Put a stick of some sort with Manuka honey and bee pollen upright in the middle and then just wait for them all to pupate. The flies will eat that. I put them in the fridge to slow them down after and then dust them with calcium or whatever supplement is up that day.

I don't want flys can't they eat the larva? If not I'm gonna be super sad lmao
Yes...they can eat the larva...I use a moist gutload and then rinse then before I feed because they get pretty messy. They eat most anything that is good for your cham and they are high in calcium naturally. I keep mine in a wine cooler and tale some out a day before and gut load them.

Can I use this?

I wouldn't use it, that stuff is garbage along with all the other feeder foods they sell at those stores. They might sustain an insect for a little while, but it probably does next to nothing as far as gutloading goes. Soft things like melon, papaya, steamed squash, etc do great for bsfl

One more question. These guys are pretty small. I now they get to about 3/4 inch. How fast do they grow?

If you keep them cooler it slows their growth. They grow faster if kept at warmer temps. They don't grow real fast though. I recently bought 500 for Lil Louie and are gut loading and feeding some...waiting for some to turn to black soldier flies for him to catch, and some are in my wine cooler to slow them down.
