Food Choices

Hello Community,

Today I could use your advise. I have a Ambilobe Panthe and this guys is such a picky eater. So far, he will only eat crickets. Knowing that a varied diet is always best for my chameleons, I have tried roaches and various worms. He simply does not attempt to eat them. Sort of like a child picking around the plate, he only eats the crickets.

At this time, it does not appear to be a health issue; however, would hate it if it does sometime down the road. Does anybody know how to entice a cham to keep other foods?

Also if I where to hatch a mantis pouch within the enclosure, would the mantis attack the chameleon?

What types of worms have you tried?

I think you would potentially end up with hundreds of mantids in the enclosure, probably not something your chameleon would like. I think they are pretty small when they hatch and they'll probably just eat each other.

I've found sticking mealworms and superworms to the ceiling often gets reluctant feeders excited about having a go. Also running roaches up on the walls. The cage ceiling and walls I'm talking about of course. You can do 1 at a time and wait for him to snag one.

Worms are eaten better when hung on the screen, as they climb up into striking range.

Try Silk worms, horn worms and super worms.

Try blue bottle flies from Mantidpets.com, always a winner!

Hatch out Phoenix Worms to adults, flyers will command attention.

Wild caught moths (Use a night light trap).

Wild grasshoppers in the summer.

Isopods (AKA Pillbugs/Rolley-Pollies)

Stick Insects.

And, Green Banana Roaches are rarely refused.
