Food shipping question

I had an order shipped to me from Mulberry Farms, and due to the high temps we've been having in the Midwest, they labeled the package with a "do not deliver" sticker so that the post office would hold the package for me to be able to pick it up. Unfortunately, the post office didn't listen, and my entire order was DOA.

My question is... since Mulberry Farms isn't at fault, do I have any recourse with the post office at this point, or should I just count this as a loss and only buy locally throughout the summer?

I did, but just as a FYI, because I honestly don't expect them to be able to do anything about it because it wasn't their fault in the slightest and I did say that in the e-mail. I haven't heard back from them and I don't know whether or not I will.

I think they should make a claim with the post office since it was their shipment. If they can't get compensated then you wouldn't either. As much product as they ship (and pay postage on) I would think the post office would be willing to make it right on their end.
I'd at least bet that if your local usps is made aware of the "Hold for Pick Up" notice, next time they will do it right!
Monday I will be getting my first shipment of dubias the same way. We'll see what happens!!!

I would talk to the post office about this.
But if this helps anybody, my first insects shipping ended up in alot of DOA's because Fedex put it in the hot sun outside my yard (with my hubby behind the house not seeing the truck right away). The company where I bought the feeders from didn't tape the lids close, so most of the crickets got loose and the superworms too. The BB flies where dead too. So now if I know the day they get delivered, I put an ice chest outside, put ice packs in it, put an insulated Walmart bag on top of the ice packs, close the lid and put another insulated bag on top of the ice chest. Then I tape a not for Fedex or USPS to the yard door that they put the box in the ice chest, and it works. I even left the ice packs in there 24 hours before I took them out and it was still cold in there.

There are advantages to living in a small town. USPS, UPS & FED EX all put my packages inside the door and then close the door. Works well in hot or cold weather. If i have incoming live chams I meet them at the planes when they land. If I have a pick up, my fed ex person calls and tell me what her last pickup time is so my kids don't go into a box until they have too. Incoming from the usps is put inside, but you never know when it will arrive.

Randi, I would not be surprised if Mulberry Farms reaches out to you to make things right for you. They can then battle the shipper.

I had a shipment of crickets (from Petco) dropped on the ground and eaten by ants (this despite me providing an ant free shelf hanging in front of the door). I informed Petco because I thought they needed to work with their shipper. They gave me full credit on my account.

This is the (very timely!) reply I received:

Hi Randi
So sorry that this happened. We specially buy the hold stickers in
fluorescent colors to make them hard to miss, but some people at the post
office are very determined *sigh*. Unfortunately, the USPS never pays
claims for shipments of live product.

We have 2 options for you:
1. We will replace the shipment at no product cost and ship via Fedex 2
day (where we can force the hold) if you can help us out on the shipping.
2. We will issue a partial refund to your Paypal account

Please let us know which option you would prefer.

Gotta love the USPS! My order from Mulberry Farms, according to the confirmation number I was sent, shipped yesterday. It was marked delivered today.
