For all the "Old People" here

Well, I consider myself being from that time frame. Totally agree but he forgot to address the specialty niche market, that all of them are in now.

Not to even address how big the captive breeding of all those animals have grown.

Every one of his 5 has become more desirable and more expensive to have, but all are still very available if you have the $$$$ (my new hobby is- what is available, where to get it and how much). :) (y)

Back in the day--- If you filled your car up with gas the Gas Station would give you a free baby alligator. Yes, times have changed.

Thanks for the video.

what the heck is this solid food being fed to this Vield? Dead and headless.

Watched this just the other night and it took me back to when I was 9-11. I used to see Jackson’s chams at local pet stores all the time. Granted, most pet stores would keep like 5 males to a cage.. 😬
LOL to funny-
WOW- now I am feeling older, I was in my 30's and still have not grown up yet. Just got older. heeheehee:D (y)
Can't wait for some "old people' to respond. Does anyone know who the oldest member is? 80-90?

You said..."Does anyone know who the oldest member is? 80-90?"...it's likely me.
"Tell me that broad isn't a year older than God's parents"—Judy Tenuta on Barbara Bush
(I kid.)

I'm older than some—younger than others, and I can't remember the '70s.
Is Adam Wicken old enough to remember the '90s? He looks like he was born around 1990. 🤷‍♂️
(Not that there's anything wrong with that; I just have jeans that are older... )

I'm curious how many of us oldsters agree with G.B. Shaw (attribution questionable):

Youth is wasted on the young.

I remember the green iguana thing too well. I can't tell you how many I radio-graphed with broken legs that barely had enough calcium in their bones to show up on films. That started in the mid 80's and went thru the 90's for me. Apparently you can't just feed them iceberg lettuce.

What?? They don't just eat iceberg lettuce?? 😉
And did you know that chameleons live on air?
"There are two references to chameleons in the text, and both of them describe chameleons as air-eaters"...

😲 Unfortunately, I can remember a kid at Neisner's saying just that.

Green anoles were like $0.69 back then, and I found a place I could mail order them for $0.25 ea.
Serendipitously, I kept them on a screened porch, so they got some natural UVB, and I fed them grasshoppers & crickets from the back yard in addition to the meal worms from the pet shop.

Funny you mention the Green anoles. 17 years ago I rescued a tank of 6 that were skinny and a week or so away from dying. I put them in my yard with citrus trees and a small pond (all I still have). Daily they (generations) keep me busy watching them and listening to the neighbors comment about the green lizards (no clue what anoles are) and how happy they make them.

I do not share my secret release, but life is short. Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
As I sit and type- I can see one moving into the sun and later will give him (it actually looks like the female from last year) a superworm. Lucky me. (y)

Edit-- So went out to take a pic.
Yep- it is the female. I am guessing the male did not make the winter, or is running some other territory. Darn!

In 1993 I bought and read a Green Iguana book by Phillipe De Vosjoli. Then I bought a baby iggy from a local pet store and I don't think I paid more than $20 for it. I put it in a 40 gallon fish tank and provided food and lights based on the info in the book.

Early on, the baby became letharic and somewhat lifeless but I was able to find a local vet that specialized in treating herps (I remember the Johnston cham on display in their lobby!) and they diagnosed he was dehydrated. So they gave it an enema and replenished fluids and sent us home. From there it fluroushed and soon I could identify it was a boy as it swiftly grew into Ig-Zilla! He was not a good "pet" and would whip his tail pretty hard at me if I handled him. Poor thing seemed scared of everything, like a severly reactive dog.

I had "Iggy" for three years and in the summer I would put a cheap, leather harness on him and tie a leash to a tree where he could soak up some natural UVB rays. However, he was strong enough to break the cheap, leather harness and escape. I never saw him again but I'm guessing he had a pretty good Seattle summer/Fall before Winter came :(

You were one of those harness people.. Ha ha Me toooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Just not an iggy. This was Bobo and when he was done with his walk, poop, and exploring he would sit on my shoes until I put the bag down. Great animal. RIP

Sorry! I tend to get off track easy...

People would stop and ask. Is that a Komodo Dragon? lol I wished

I recall a lot of monitors for sale in local pet shops back in the '90s. Particularly, Savannahs and Tegus. Blue tongue skinks were readily available as I recall.

Sometime in the early 80’s (I must have been all of 14-15) I became entranced by a baby iguana in my local pet store. It was the most amazing animal I’d ever seen and I wanted it. I started asking the pet store owner about it. He started by telling me how big they get and about the tail whipping. I didn’t need to ask any more questions. Never thought about reptiles again and stuck with my sweet kitties…until Grumpy came along.

Mine would only whip me when I was going to put it back in its cage after letting it roam the house for a while. I solved the problem by covering the tail up so it couldn't be swung with force at me.
