Force feeding to regular feeding

Hi all,

I am currently force feeding my 1 yr old veiled. He has parasites, dehydrated and a little low on calcium. I have his meds, food that I have to force feed and I mist him as much as I can.

I currently have to force feed him everyday and would like to be able to transition him back to eating his hornworms, silkworms, crickets and dubias. Does anyone know how I can make that transition happen?

I tried to stick a worm in his mouth today but he just spits it back out.
 
Is he done with his meds? How old is he? Why is he not eating himself (what started it, the meds or the parasites?) If he's currently still on his meds I would continue force feeding unless he's got enough weight that you don't have to worry. Have you tried showering? Are you hand misting or have an auto?
 
I first took him to the vet due to sperm plugs. After several tests we found out he's low on calcium, dehydrated, has parasites and there may be a kidney stone. One part of his tail is also discolored and has been for 2 weeks now. I kept him with the vet a few days and am now continuing to give the meds they had been giving him. He's pooping but it's not his normal black poop. The urates are white most of the time and if not, I will force feed him water if needed. He doesn't eat or drink anymore. He used to eat his pothos or ficus but he doesn't eat that anymore either.

I don't know what started it but the vet suspects it's because of the parasites. I have a mist King set to spray water every 2 hours for 20 mins. I hand mist as well when I take him out for a couple hours everyday for natural sun. I can't give him a shower because he doesn't stay still. He has a habit of running from the water. Therefore I mist him for 30 minutes 2-3 times a week with warm water.

He's been on his meds for a week now and my vet asked me to try to transition him back to regular feeding.
 
Is he being given parasite meds right now? Do you know his meds? Is it only liquid calcium?
 
His weight is normal according to my vet. Attached is a couple of pictures.

I am assuming he's only taking the Calcium Glubionate at the bottom? Otherwise you are doing some crazy home care and over doing it likely...
 
Did he treat him parasites? If he's got an overload of them and your vet is worried enough for them to affect him it's not gonna get any better until they are reduced in my opinion
 
That's odd in my opinion, liquid calcium doesn't keep forever how much are you supposed to give him a day?

They also gave mixture of meds for the parasites. They didn't mention if it's an overload. They just said he's not eating because he's got them and one particular type is worrisome.

Either way, if they are saying to try to transition him back to regular food, I'm assuming it's not the worst case scenario.
 
He may not be eating well on his own because of the lack of calcium. If you want to transition him back you have to stop hand feeding, and just feed him like you usually would.

I haven't been hand feeding him. Thanks for the feedback.
 
I know I meant force feeding XD lmao sorry, so if you cup feed etc. You have to only do that, and hopefully he will pick it up again... don't expect it to happen in a couple days, it may or may not.
