Friendliest Species of Chameleon?

I know for the most part it is just kind of luck of the draw, but is there a species of chameleon that is normally chiller than the other? I've heard some amazing stories when it comes to jackson's but not much at all about their bad temperament. And I've also heard that Female Veileds are living Devils.

Can anyone shed some light on the subject for me. (particularly on Nosy Be's and Jackson Chameleons Please):D

First off, to clear the air, I have had 2 female veileds, and both have been incredibly sweet :) Loved them both dearly! As for common "nice" species, it really can be luck of the draw. I have a male veiled who is awesome, a male panther who is awesome, and a female panther who wants to eat me whole. I have never heard of a mean Jackson chameleon, but that does not mean there is no such thing! It basically comes down to the patients that you, and your chameleon, have with eachother. Handling can be a stressful thing for both of you, and sometimes the owner has to know when to throw in the towel on whether or not he got a friendly chameleon. But for a beginner, I would recommend a male panther. The first 1-7 months of his life might be kind of aggressive (mine usually put on a show as babies), but they seem to really chill out when they get older. Hope this helps!

I don't have experience with these chameleons personally, but I always here people talking about how friendly their Oustalet's Chameleons are.

All of my chameleons are sweet and friendly but I'd have to say my veileds are the sweetest and the female veileds show the best personality.

My female veiled is exactly as OP described.

However, I just got a male jacksons and he is as sweet as could be!

I, too, have never heard of a mean jacksons, so I would advise the beginner to start out there.

Out of the big 3 (veiled, panther and jax), I would say jax are the most
laid back and docile ;)

Noogie has never hissed at me or anything

I have had two female veileds and a male all have been so lovely! Even my male who had been passed around several times before I got him was the sweetest boy you could ever meet - never once hissed or tried to bite. I think a lot of it is down to how you treat them and how you relate to them and act towards them. I also have a male Jackson (my wonderful Monty) who I love to bits - he is the sweetest little man ever. My latest addition is my 6 month old Carpet chameleon. I got him at 3 months old back in October 2012 and he is still really shy, hissy and puffy! He accepts nothing to do with handfeeding whatsoever - he just puffs up and even lunges at me whilst hissing rather loudly! He has far more attitude than the other 4 put together!

It is definitely the luck of the draw with veilds and panthers; I appreciate both sweet and fiery chams :)

My male jacksons is my sweetest, he is very friendly and as cute as can be. If friendliness is the trait you are selecting on, I would go with a jackson. Make sure you read up on their care :)

Chameleons in general are not pets that tolerate much handling, so do not purchase one under the assumption that it will sit on your shoulder all day or want to interact with you. Each chameleon has its own personality and regardless of what you do it may never be tame or friendly. Holding it more when it is young does not guarantee that it will make them friendly, and some will be very stressed by being handled often. Hand feeding is one of the best ways to win your chameleon's trust - this involves holding out food, without holding or touching your chameleon, until it will shoot the bug off your hand. Some chameleons are naturally more friendly than others, but you don't usually know which ones they will be.

For example: my male panther is like a social butterfly - he is super friendly. My female is really friendly too but not quite as much as he is. My male jackson tolerates people but he doesn't want to be handled. My male veiled is the devil incarnate.

That picture is so cute. You could definitely tell your chameleon loves you :)

It really doesn't depend on the type of chameleon. It's just luck. Some chameleons may be friend and sweet and others of the same kind may be rough. Again, it's just all luck. Hope you get a sweet cham though :)

Wow thanks y'all! From What I've heard so far I'm now on the fence between a panther (Nosy Be) and a jackson.

Someone said earlier look up the care for a Jackson is it much different than that of a veiled or panther? I know all the species have slightly different temp and humidity necessities, but is there something else different? (sorry I've done most of my research on veiled and panthers)

And lol just looked up a picture of a verrucosus he even looks pissed.

Yes, jax have very different care. There a montane species so need less heat, more water, different suppliments.
