Hello.

How can i keep a fruit fly culture going? I live in El Paso, TEXAS so it is dry here. I have had cultures for a few days with lots and lots of flies...and then the following day they are all dead. thx

You can find recipes online for making your own. Or you can buy pre made power that you add water to. You will need about 20 to 30 fruit flys to start a new culture. They take a few weeks to get going.

my cultures last for about a month. I purchased from dartfrogconstruction.com

if you made the culture your self you have to keep it from molding.

I've been making weekly fruit fly cultures for over 10 years and it's not that hard once you get into a groove. It's easier to buy a pre-made mix online. I don't think humidity is a big factor.

I used the cups and mix from joshsfrogs, and added 3 crumpled coffee filters on top before closing the lid. Just follow the recipe on the mix. It's not expensive.

@suprdude thanks for sharing. I use the powder mix from dart frog connection. I’ve been really happy with it.
I just thought you made a homemade mix. I haven’t been thinking about giving it a try.
