Fussy panther

My new boy Rupert was eating large or adult losusts to begin with, but now he is turning into a big diva. He will eat only butterworms and silkworms. He ignores everything else.
Is he going to be fine on this diet? I'm getting a bit uneasy about this worm-eating business. And how do I get him to eat bugs again?
He is a 10mo Ambanja.

They do need a bit of 'roughage' in the form of the hard skin/ legs of roaches/locusts/crix.

You could not offer the worms or any feeders for a few days, then offer the locusts again.

Ur Cham will not starve itself! Please be aware of this!

If the locusts are ignored, leave a couple more days then offer them again.

Worked when my but stopped eating for 2weeks!

If they realise that's all there is and they become hungry, they'll sharp give in!lol

I'd cut the bag legs off the adult locusts though as they can do damage with those awful spines!!

Good luck

Keep us posted ;)

chameleons get tired of the same food very quickly, try crickets, walking stick, praying mantis

Thanks Kat! My yemens never have food strikes.. Ripley would eat me if she could=) Will have to be strict with Rupert then:)

I have two panthers who have both been through eating strikes resulting from a strong preference for a single type of feeder (in my case always superworms).

It has taken me up to a week of no feeding to break them and get them to eat crickets again. You have to stay strong and ensure they are getting proper hydration. If your panther is a healthy adult, they can go for surprsingly long without eating and remain strong and healthy.

Good luck and patience!

KatCham has a solid point. Be more stubborn than your lizard. Eventually they'll give in and eat what you want them to. They may go on a hunger strike for a while, but eventually they'll give it up and eat what you give them.

he's been on a strike for about 10 days already.. :(

Is that all?? Lol I was panicking after 2 weeks!!! No need seriously.

Don't worry Hun, hang in there. When he's hungry he'll eat whatever food is there, believe me!! He won't starve himself! ;)

Stubborn little buggers they can be at times!

Simba now eats whatever is put in front of him every other day! :D

thanks! I'll try not to offer him anything for a few days. See how he does.
The worst thing is I got 50 butterworms for him sitting in the fridge.. suppose he's not going to get them

strikes

Yep don't worry. I have the same trouble. I just stopped worrying about as much. I agree hydration is the most important thing. My panther loves super worms and crickets when he is hungry. When he is not super hungry he responds better to super worms. He likes to eat more and quicker when I take him outside. They will drive you crazy if you let them.
