Future New Veiled Chameleon Owner

So my 3 year old son was playing w/ a toy Chameleon for 3 days straight. We pulled up the "Youtube" & were amazed that there was a "Chameleon Care World" out there. My son looked at me & said "I want one", I was like I want one also. That was early Feb 2018. So we have done our research, created a pretty good & natural habitat (suitable live plants & misting system). We have a timer on the lighting sys & we monitor the envoiroment diligently, to ensure correct temp & humidity. We are reading books, asking questions, taking notes, visiting many pet stores & reptile stores. As we are new to this we want to make sure everything is suitable for when we bring him home. We are now doing extensive research on feeding & the settling in time period. Can you guys provide info on feeding. How often should we feed w/ dusted calcium? We have suitable UVB lighting & a basking perch, do we need to provide supplements w/ D3? All suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forums. This is the very best place to do chameleon research. You will find the most accurate information here. I also have some beautiful veiled babies available. I’m very picky about where they go but I am willing to work with new keepers that have the desire to learn. I’m attaching my blog for you below about how I recommend keeping a chameleon healthy and also a link to the forums resources that will give you accurate information about just about everything you’ll need to know about keeping a chameleon.

Welcome to the forum. You sound like you are doing your homework before getting your cham....that is the best you can do. Most keepers get the cham and don't have a clue what they need. I will vouch for @jannb her babies are raised with love...and sooo sweet. I have one of them so I know. Good luck.

Ahh nice, We got some replays. Thanks Jannb & Fiona's Mom. We appreciate you taking the time to give some advice. Jannb we have look at the links you have provided & all info is bonus at this point. We are not to bring a Chameleon home yet, as we are still fine tuning our enclosure.

We just purchesed a digital humidity gauge, where is the best place to place in the enclosure to place it. At the top, mid-way or the bottom of the enclosure???

Welcome! Glad you're taking the right steps in preparing for your cham instead of just jumping into it without doing any sort of research. I place my humidity gauge at the bottom, I used to have it at the top but that was before I moved things around a bit. I can't say what's best but it seems to work fine in both spots. Maybe one of the others have a better answer. Not sure what species you're planning on getting, but consider one of Jann's wonderful babies :).
