Gender Determination

Hi guys. I read on this thread somewhere that a breeder can tell the gender of a Panther Chameleon by looking at it's tail. I have a pic and was wondering if it's helpful at all?
Anyone have an answer?


My Cham is 17 days old. Hatched at home. He/she is doing fantastic. Loves to hunt, loves to bask and sleeps from the moment the lights go off, until they come on in the morning. He is pooping well. Have not touched him at all. Breeder suggested we wait a month. Goes thru awesome color and pattern changes. Curls up in the cutest positions at night to sleep. Happiest little guy!!

Still to early to tell. If it is a male, the tail will thicken, or enlarge near the base.

I’m pretty confident on what the hatchling is, but if you would take another photo that is closer, showing the vent area and the base of the tail, I can be certain.

Here are a couple pics I had in my phone. It changes a lot of colors. It's hard to get good pictures bc I have to zoom in very close bc if its size. Sometimes it looks like a salmon color, then other times its whole body gets really pale with vibrant dark stripes or spots. When it hunts it gets really light in color, when its relaxed and just hanging out he is also light. During misting it gets darker but spends most of it's time in lighter color tones. From the time it gets up until the lights go off, it's on the move exploring. At the end of the night it goes right to sleep and starts over. It's so entertaining to watch it go when on the move.
