Gonna be away for a while

So i am going on a 5 day trip at the end of the month and i am not sure what to do with Chad. He is a veiled chameleon, currently has The Little Dripper in his cage, and i can put a lot of worms in his food bowl. Ive been hand misting him. I think the dripper will run out over the period of five days, and i wont be there to hand mist him. The worms go bad after he doesnt eat them in a few days, and i heard that you can put hibiscus flowers in and they eat those. is that true??? im just really worried cause i worry so much about everything :\. if anyone has advice, please let me know wha i should do! thanks for your time :)

You will need to most him, can you get someone to watch him or a mist system? Depending on his age, food might not be that big of a deal. In general I don't even like drippers(well my chams don't lol), they aren't a substitution for misting though. We mist for more than just hydration.

There may be pet sitters that your local vet could recommend. Do you have any reptile owning friends that could sit him? You could train a neighbor kid the basics. A misting system would be a good investment either way.

Get a misting system regardless so you don't have this problem again. Food should be ok just leave a good amount of worms, he won't die if he doesn't eat for a couple days.

i've been saving up for a misting system, it's going to take a while to get the money for one. I would ask my neighbor to mist him, but i really don't trust my neighbors to take care of him. . . i have my reasons. i'm going on the trip in a few weeks so is till have time if i can get $100 or so dollars in that time, which is highly unlikely. i could probably figure something else out though

Do your best to save up about $120 for a mistking, you won't regret it! Save up, eat ramen noodles! Do it for Chad!

Do you have any friends or family with transportation that can watch him for you? Some one you would trust a little more? If not, I would look into pet sitters and/or boarding. Perhaps your local vet or pet store has a boarding program. (I'm extremely fortunate to have a pet store right down the road who does boarding.)

i do have my aunt who lives like 10 minutes away, but having her come to my house probably more than 3 times a day to take care of him is kinda a little too much to ask. really, my only solution here would be to get a misting system, but right now i have $0 and. a mistaking is around $100. i'm leaving on the 23, so i won't have enough time to get that much money, and my parents won't buy it for me

Just so you know, if you don't mist him there is a very good chance he will have permanent kidney damage. Maybe not now, but at some time down the road he could die of some sort of kidney related problem. That's why it's important to never let them get badly dehydrated

If your Aunt could fill up a dripper and do a misting daily that would be better than nothing. She wouldn't even have to open the cage. Better yet maybe he could just stay at your aunt's house for misting if not for food. Feed him up before you go.

my other solution would be getting an automatic mister, and i on,y have two weeks. basically one since i would get it online and it needs time to ship. i doubt that there would be a way to get $100 in that amount of time. my mom said it would be too much money to get someone to come and take care of him, like a pet sitter, and she told me she won't give me the money to buy the mister, which i understand cause she bought some other stuff. i'm just really worried since i just got him about a month ago, and he's still a little jumpy and stuff, and since he's still adapting i know he would need a lot of care.

I don't see why someone can't come and mist at least once a day If that's the best you can do. I don't know what you mean he'd need a lot of care, it's just misting what other "care would he need?

well, the dripper i have doesn't work that well, after a while it just stops dripping completely(you have to adjust the drip for it to work again), and there's a bowl to catch the water that has to be emptied. i guess i just worry too much :/

Have you tried contacting a local pet store and see if they are willing to "care" for your chameleon while you are away? I've been to numerous pet stores where I see......Not for Sale and I'd ask and in most cases, they are pet sitting while owner is on vacation. I'm sure the cost will be minimal and you'd have expert hands keeping an eye on your chameleon.

i will see how much that would cost, thanks for the suggestion:)

For the dripper, maybe just make a bigger one? Get some wall shelves put them up over the cage, put a big Rubbermaid bin or something up there with water and put a hole in it. It's better than nothing I guess. You could probably make a mister yourself cheap too.

I know it sounds absurd, but where are you going? And is there any chance you could take him with you? Since he's still young, he would fit into a small cage, like a critter keeper. You could throw in enough cricketsto get through the trip, and then just keep him somewhere quiet and undisturbed. Or if you can't do crickets, get a container of small superworms. I know it would be stressful for him, but if you give him space, and only bother him when feeding/misting, he would probably be just fine. Anything is better than having him die a horrible and painful death like kidney failure.
