Gonna have to be brave ....

Oh Gosh!!!! U are a brave girl. I'm anxiously awaiting ur post to see how u liked them!!! They seriously freak me out!!! My husband would move out if I brought them in the house!!! I definitely agree that silk moths are MUCH cuter!! Easy to breed too :). Good luck!

I was brave over a week ago and bought some for Mia for the first time. They are awful, i wont touch them. The tweezers get the job but Mia really loves them and she gets to have a really nice chew but im still NEVER picking one up with my fingers.

There used to be a site called the Roach Shop, but when I searched it comes up with account suspended. Try good old ebay!:D I still haven't ordered any yet! Mia, where did you get yours from?

try thr roach colony. I really like dubias i havent fed many off yet though waiting for next year to have a substantial colony. To be honest they are a really interesting species to keep and i like watching them and keeping them even if im not going to feen them. The worst part is hwen i first got mine but they are fine. They are much better than crickets and i have never had an escape. Do it for amy and tommys sake they will love them. Start a colony and its free feeders for all.:D

The first colony I bought freaked me out. They were 1,000 tightly packed in a small tupperware container. I didn't look when I opened it and dumped them into their bin but you could hear them and that grossed me out. After they settled down I then looked in and got creeped out. I took a deep breath and dove right in and my fear was over. The little ones are fine, but the adults are scary. Luckily I don't have a cham big enough to eat adults. I got rid of them a while back. Now with the new baby melleri, once again I have purchased another colony. This time I picked all the little ones out and left the adults to do what they do. That way I don't have to look at them everyday. They really are easier than crickets, I don't have to pluck their back legs off like crickets and they don't jump all over the place.

 They BITE?!?! OMG! Think I might take all that talk of bravery right back and stick it somewhere where the sun don't shine, lol!:D Already been bitten by a locust this week, so that alone has sent me back to using tweezers, lol! Surely they can't be more scuttly, evil or stinky as crix, can they? Perhaps I need to do some more thinking before I take the plunge!

Well you guys aren't exactly filling me with confidence with this, lol!

Oh I actually prefer working with roaches compared to crickets. They DON'T bite, don't jump all over, eat each other or your herps, and a colony smells a lot less than the same number of crickets. Dubia are nice...they are not as fast and skittery as the dreaded German cockroach. Really, they are not as bad as you think they are. Just have to meet some and see.

While at the reptile centre stocking up on goodies for my chams I asked about the Dubias that they had advertised on the 'net, and asked if they would be seeling smaller/baby roaches. They are currently breeding them and will be selling babies in a few weeks! At least I can look at them first and see if I'm ok with them! I will let you know when I take the plunge, lol!:D

Be brave! The little ones look like fat Rollie pollies. :) the adults look different though. If you get some, hold your first one outside so if you fling it, it doesn't matter!

When I was younger, I used to fling the large adult crickets across the room if I thought it was going to 'bite me.' :D I know the feeling. Especially hold the big ones outside for the first time. They feel weird (tickley almost) but creepy.

Getting the 'big' ones s NOT gonna happen! Amy isn't big enough herself to eat them I don't think. I love roly-poly's so I'm sure I'll be ok!:D

I leave the big ones alone :) Pan is about 14 inches now and he can eat some pretty decent sized bugs (cheating on the space between your eyes rule anyways.) They seem to be his favorite feeder :) I bet Tommy would like the big ones ;)
