I just got my mister today. I know my cham might have a hydration problems b/c of the orange urate in his stool I found. Should I mist him more often? What misting schedule is best? With this investment can I be reassured he will get adaquate hydration?

What system did you buy and what kind of cham do you have?

I have a dripper and automist. I hand mist also. I have one patho plant in the cage. Humidity after misting is usually 60-70% average it stays at 40-50. Am i doing something wrong?

how many times in a day you mist and for how long?
Can we see pics of your jackson and his enclosure?
another way to help with the hydration is giving him a high water content insect such as hornworms and silkworms.

How many on/off cycles do you have on the timer for your mister? If your getting 40-50% during the day, that is a bit low. I would have your mister run maybe three times a day for 10 minutes each... And I would get a humidifier to keep the humidity up in between mistings.

I just got the mister and I was planning on setting it for 9am for 8min 12pm 4 min 3pm 8 min and 6pm 4 mins. I read a humidifier is not good. My jackson is still a baby at 4 months. Would I over do it? I don't have a pic of my enclosure just yet. It's an 18*18*24 cage with two articial vines running horizontal and a pathoplant at the bottom with many leaves that he sits on. The dripper and mister are both on the upper right of the cage. Thanks for your help. I am really trying to do it all right!!

Also where do you guys buy your worms besides online? Do pet stores carry them? Is he too young for the worms?

that schedule sounds great.
mine is:
7 am 5 min
10 am 5 min
1 pm 5 min
5 pm 5 min

Just make sure that the leaves actually collect water droplets; to give access to your cham in case he is a dew lapper.

Many people used ultra sonic humidifier to aid in maintaining humidity.
Especially for montane species which demand for higher humidity.

Just online. Sometimes, petstore nearby my area carry them (they also getting it from the same company).
4 mo cham can eat silkies and hornworms. Just make sure you feed him the right size.
Obviously, you are not gonna feed him adult hornworms.
But, small hornworm or silkies will do.

Thanks I am hoping my misting schedule will change that!! I live in Northern Virginia. I would hate to order worms in bulk and then have them grow into HUGE worms. I am terrified of bugs as is!!! I was hoping to find a plce to buy a few in my area if you guys know of any.

Sorry I have a panther. Don't know why I said jackson I think i was reading another post and it's almost 1am and I'm at work.

Oh, ok well 40-50% isn't too far off... you should be ok with that. Just mist your guy twice a day... maybe 10-15 minutes each?

As for bugs. Try ordering a cup of silk worms with chow from Mulberry Farms Tell them you want small worms. They can accommodate you... and tell them Kevin sent you;):D.

Silk worms are very soft and are not gross to handle at all.

You could try a Horn worm cup... but they grow kinda fast... so unless you can keep track of them and keep them cool to slow the growing I wouldn't try them unless you don't mind them getting big. If your cham is 4 months old he should be able to handle horn worms that are 1.5" long (med) just fine. But remember to order them small so you can control how fast they grow.

Hi ysabel. Is that like Isabel? If so I like how its spelled. Anyway, I was wondering what part of northern VA you live in if you dont mind me asking. I live in Hagerstown MD.

Very cool!!! I work all over MD and northern VA. Feel free to contact me by PM anytime. I check this thing every day all day:rolleyes: hahaha. Its always good to post your questions up here so you can get a variety of good answeres/opinions but, like many others on here, if you need some nieghborly assistance and I can help I will be more than glad too. Also. I dont know how many chams you keep or how you get your feeders but the californians that are lucky enough to have multiple keepers in an area usually all pitch in to buy bulk bugs because its much cheaper. If this would be something you are interested in let me know. Im Cain, its nice to meet another cham keeper around here:D
