Grasshoppers

Chaka

Its that time of year again! Went fishing and saw some of these jumping around so I caught a few. They're super green and awesome I wonder what kind are they.

Too bad they don't sell these because I bet they're great feeders + I think its what chams eat mostly in the wild.

Also, If I catch like 50+ and put them in a tube with grass growing/ daylight bulb, will they breed? Or do they need a winter cycle?

Yea I read some threads about them but they were all from 2009 with no updates on what happened, haha.. I still think I'm going to give it a try.

Yes you can breed them. Keep them warm, I feed mine romaine. Provide a suitable moist laying medium and they with mate and lay eggs. Eggs hatch in the spring.

wow - what lucky chams you have!
There wont be grasshoppers to catch where I live until July/August

They are a project for me. I don't feed them to my Chameleons unless they are dying or dead lol. I'm on my third generation and it is hard to get a good amount of them to hatch out. I am always refining the way I keep them.

Any shots of the entire setup? Looks pretty cool!
