Great deal on plants

So I am super excited. I decided to stop at my local Houston Garden Center because I saw a big 70% off sign. I am so glad I stopped. I picked up a huge pothos for $9.00 and two 3-4 ft Schefflera's for 7.50 each. I walked out with three great plants for $25.00. I am going to use one of the schefflera's for Rebel and Penelope to free range on. ( at different times) and I know I can get two nice hanging plants out of the one pothos. The other scheffler is going to go in Rebels new enclosure. Now to re pot the plants. Would it be ok to just replace the top 1/2 of the soil as long as cover the soil with rocks. I have river rocks the size of my palm that I use on top of all of my plants. Cannot wait to get everything set up and going....:D

Omg

Here in California, we get even better deals! I am super-excited to get 4' Scheff. arboricola for $5, and ginormous 8" pothos hanging 6' plus for $12. Beat that.

Wow, I don't know *where* you guys go, but I WISH I could go somewhere and NOT spend 70$ on a plant or two :(

LOL... You beat me on the Scheff. but I think I did better on the pothos.. I am lucky that there are several garden centers here. I thought Houston Garden Centers was going out of business but I asked and was told that they are just getting ready for the 1000 + Christmas trees that they will be getting.
I cant wait to set up a part time free range for Rebel and Penelope. Now if I can just get Penelope pasts the "OMG She is so tiny and I worry constantly" stage. :D

The best deal I ever got on plants was a mismarked Ficus alli at a garden center. I asked a clerk if this tree was REALLY only $40 even though the tree was almost 7' tall and at least 4' wide in a huge 15 gallon pot. She couldn't find any obvious price correction so whispered "go for it!". I had to borrow a truck to get the thing home, but it formed the center of a room-sized free range for melleri.

Also, check garage sales. Sometimes big overgrown houseplants are the last things people want to try to move!
