Green tree monitors

Here's some vids where my Green tree monitors share their food:) Emeril(male) gets insects and lets her take half and they eat together. They do this almost very time they eat now. I had to do it in 3 parts because Jade(female) saw me and kept trying to come out. I don't know why they do this, I think it's really interesting. Jade could easily get her own food but she doesn't and waits for him to share with her everytime.

The first one they are already eating together and I missed Emeril getting it.

The second one I missed him getting it again and they are already eating but then he gets another superworm and she takes half of it from him but then she sees me and tries to come out again.

The third one I back up and catch them sharing again a few times.

I thought some of you might like to watch this and find it as interesting as I do:)

Oddly, I've watched my ackies do that, might be a case of many hands make light work.
Very envious, gorgeous creatures! :)

I am so envious of you! These are my favorite!! (when I am home to visit (i.e. the Denver area) I will most definitely need to pay a visit to see of your wonderful creatures!!)

Thanks everybody!

jojackson that is so cool your ackies do it too! I've never seen it before so it really sparks my curiousity! Are your ackies a male & female pair too?

chams1 they are my favorite too, lol! You can come over anytime! These monitors are not afraid of people at all so if you really ever visit I'll let you hold them and hand feed them if you want, it's really cool. Too bad your not around right now cause I have 2 little baby gators at the moment:)

Yup 1:1 pair. Ive noticed they do it especially with bigger insects, like supers, and the occasional pinky mouse. On their own it takes much work, face wiping, clawing etc to break it up for swallowing, so I guess it works out great to work together. :)
Captive critters have it so easy!

Id give an arm and a leg for a pair of green ones...much envy. Gorgeous monitors! :)

That's cool!

I'd give an arm and a leg for a young cbb pair of blue tree monitors and/or yellow tree monitors(V.reisingeri)! They are so expensive though! Do you like those too?

Saw some blue ones recently, yes absolutely stunning they were. Im quite fond of monitors in general, unfortunately, blues (v.Macraei) are sadly on my 'unattainable,-dream-on' list. :D

V.prasinus are found here, but are highly protected and rare in captivity, I havent ever seen any offered for sale, though I expect
they would be a few thousand dollars.

Where do you live? When my green tree monitors have babies I'll have to send you one:)

"OH GOD!!" *chews knuckles*

How I wish! Thats awesomely generous and kind of you, but unfortunately it just isnt possible since I live in Australia, but I really appreciate the guesture, Thankyou very much. :)

Ha Ha youre so funny! Too bad you live so far! Living in Australia must be worth it though, with all the cool animals that live there:)

Your green tree monitors are amazing. I love the interaction between the two. What size/type of enclosure are you keeping the pair in? I saw a captive hatched juvenile on KS the other day that I want, but it is no longer there... You snooze ya lose.

See ya,

Todd

Jo jackson I just watched a video on monitors in Australia, I'm gonna post it in a new thread. Love the pics btw!

toddmkeller thanks! Since they are still little I keep them in a large tank, not sure how many gallons but it's bigger than a 55 gal for sure. I was told it was 90 gal but I'm not sure if that is correct. Before they are adults I'm going to find someone to help me build a 6-7 ft tall cage. I had someone lined up but I don't like them anymore so now I have to find someone else. I'm too scared of messing up to do it myself.

You know, that's why I bought my first gtmonitor, lol! He is CBB and I was so afraid I'd miss out on another that was CBB so I bought him right away! The second one I got was WC.
