Grey Jackson's chameleon

Hi I have a question about my Jackson's well being . I have a 60 watt light and a reptisun 5.0 bulb in a glass terrarium with the top completely open. He stays a grey color while he is awake but when he sleeps he turns bright green why does stay grey all day? And I would like to start hand feeding how to I get him to start. Any replies will be helpful thank you

It may be to walm, jacksons like cool temps, what temp is you viv at the basking spot and what is the ambient temp? I've got a 25 w basking bulb for mine and only shining threw the corner of a mesh viv, also does the viv have good ventilation? This is a must for Jacksons

I read up on a site and it say around 70 and that's where it is. I believe so mthe top is open for ventilation while I keep the front doors also.. I just put the bulb today I was just running the 5.0 bulb and I had the same characteristics.. What's ideal temp for them. For humidity I just spray down my terrarium is there a better option??

that's the write temp, mine is around 74 ambient temp and around 82 at basking point, you could get away without a basking bulb It just helps for digestion, is it a normal bulb or red glo bulb? How old is the 5.0 UVB? And are you gut loading you insects? if he isn't over walm he could be a little stressed

I'm just using a regular bulb.. It's new I just got him and the light.. I gut load with this orange squares I was recommender by a friend.. Yeah the temp is right. If he's stressed what's something I could do to help out with the stress?

Stress can be caused by any number of things, the best thing to do is to fill out the care sheet and then we will be able to see if there is any ware you could improve, also for jacksons good gut loading is very important as you don't use the calcium powder an others to offen so I would have a look at Sandrachameleon's gut loading, they are very helpful

He could be dehydrated. What color is his poop? How often and how long are you misting him for? You should be misting him for at least 5 minutes 4-5 times a day making sure the humidity is up there. Also it is recommended that his enclosure is more open than just the top. How large is the enclosure? For an adult you want it 2x2x4.

Alright thanks il heck that out but I don't use powder. And his poop is a dark brown. I have a standing water dish but I know a dripping system is very useful. I live in new Mexico and its been real warm this summer.. I was also thinking of getting a humidifier / fogger for him.. The cage he is in is about 18"x18"x24" or a little taller those are rough estimates and I recently bought him from the store. So I'm not sure if he's full adult yet. And that care sheet where can I find that at?

They mean the white bit of the poop, the urate is it white or does it have yellow in it, if it's yellow it's a sign of dehydration and how old is your Cham because that's quite a small viv height ways for a sub adult or adult

When you say you don't use powder are you saying you don't supplement his food with calcium?

Kate I do supplement his food the crickets have this gut load it's a complete source . Dehydration sounds right. yeah I think that is what's going on because there was orange and I was skimming through Internet and that's not how my chameleons poop looked like. Whats the most efficient and acceftive way to rehydrate him. I'm not completely sure on how old he is but I'd say he's a got 6"

Extra misting, also a dripper would make a lot of difference and also some feeders are good for hydration such as silkworms

Same here, I use a 25w basking bulb, plain household bulb.
It gets plenty hot enough for my male jacksons and he is in a 48'' cage.

And I supplement with calcium without d3 once a week and also use reptivite or any multivitamin once a month and once a month with calcium with d3, they don't need much but Ive had success suplimenting like this

Silk worms alright . I've only fed him crickets and a small amount of meal worms he's not too big of a fan of misting so il try a drip system. Im also trying to hand feed him whats the best way to accomplish this?? Yeah my tank is about 3 feet tall but I have the top off with a planouting extended up outside to crawl out and I. Leave the front door always open..

I don't hand feed so I don't really no and keep misting aswell, he might not like it but will die if you don't, he will get used to it over time just try not to spray directly in his eyes he will be ok

Try warming the water a bit before you mist.
Sometimes I put the spray bottle in the microwave for a minute so it
wont be so cold.

I got home from work and misted him real good he was loving it drinking the water like crazy. I need to set up a drip system so he has water available at all times. The gut loader that I was recommended was flunkers orange cubes complete cricket diet
