Growth on Head

What do you feed this guy? Those are fat pads on his casque but I'm not sure what that growth could be. You should get the vet to check it out. Jann

I agree. the swelling on the casque appears to be fat deposits. He is overfed..... The growth is coming from underneath the skin, but I am unsure what it is. A trip to the vet would be the best bet, because if it is an infection, that is a dangerous area for the infection to grow as it could cause problems of all sorts.

Looks like it could be some kind of sinus infection.
I would have it checked by a vet.
Also, it could be a genetic defect.
Lately I've seen several veileds from a particular clutch, all of which had that problem.
You veiled looks incredibly overweight.
A casque that large is full of fat.
Can we see a picture of his body?

thanks for all the replies i will post a pix of his body in reference to him being overweight. i also have noticed the past couple of days his colors are more vibrant and outine around face darker. could an infection cause this. this happened prior to the growth.

More than two-thirds of head and neck cancer patients have a locally advanced stage when diagnosed. The disease has a poor five-year survival rate even after treatment. Current treatment options are limited and often cause disabling side effects.

angle why do you have a human baby guide on your post you do realize that chameleons and people are nothing alike rite?????????????????????????:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

Hello yes Ido agree you should get him to a vet. And he does look huge! I will say my first cham I ever owned had the EXACT looking growth on its head. I will have to find the pics. I documented it for about 6 mo. it got larger and larger and finnaly opened up . I gave her a topical tripple antibiotic ointment and regularly cleaned it out. It slowley scabbed and completley came of and eventually you couldn't even tell anything happened, and she lived a couple more years as healthy as ever. This is just my story and experience to share. It was in the begining of my cham hobby I should have took her to a vet and I agree you probably should as well. I would love to see more pics of your cham to see a size reference. This dude looks HUGE!
Please let us know the findings and good luck!:)

Hi zoieaj,
Did you ever find out what was growing on your chameleons head. I have a female veiled chameleon who is 3 years old and has the same thing except bigger. She is eating fine and appears to be healthy other than the huge growth continuously growing on her head. If you could get back to me, I would appreciate it soooo much.
Thank you

I know this is an old thread.

For the past week especially, my 4 year old male veiled gained a swollen casque. It took me 5 days to be seen by a reptile vet and yesterday he told me its either an abcess in the casque or its cancer.

He is going to do a biopsy tomorrow and see what the issue is. If its an abcess they are going to basically cut open the casque and deal with the issue and so it back up. If its cancer, itll never go away and the ethical thing to do is have him goto sleep.

The swollen casque thing isnt well documented but also theres more

a) Chameleon started falling off the branches on a daily basis. I think the added weight of the casque affected his balance

b) Lost appitite. To get him through the weekend id blow on him to annoy him and put a locust in his mouth and he was happy to chew it down

c) He drank much more.... Misting is the cruelest thing for a chameleon. They need a proper good soaking with more than mist. My chameleon enjoys this for 2-3 mins before drinking.

d) He lost the use of his back legs. Not really, theres still plenty grip but his orientation is dead

e) He didnt goto the toilet for a week

f) Before i force fed him, he would fall asleep in the day time. I guess he was phyiscally weak

g) He lost power in his tongue but again, he was always just "short" of target. Always licking the insect but not enough power to "catch it".

The reason i didnt fill out a form was because in every thread everyone bascically just abuses your nutriotion/uv setups and its boring to listen to people getting slated over nutition when a totally different issue is at work.

Ronson49, so sorry your cham is having problems

I'm glad that you got him to a vet, rather than filling-out the help form.
I suspect that many people don't realize that there are things that make chams ill besides the more common bacteria, parasites, viruses and husbandry issues.
It's a real shame that husbandry is all too commonly the cause, hence the typically critical comments in response to the help form.

I do hope that your veiled has a treatable abscess and makes a full recovery.

Thanks for your kind words Lovereps.

I got the call this morning. 11am. TAO my chameleon had cancer and even in the space of 2 days it grew while he was at the vets.

The vet called me to say he was asleep from the biopsy and the most ethical thing to do is have him drift off into his sleep. So i agreed. The cancer had made him very weak but the worst thing is that it was so fast.

So my days of Chameleons or reptiles are over and dispite the fact that he hated me with all his passion, ill miss him and miss him alot.

Cheers.

I can understand how difficult this was for you.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
May your heart heal soon.
