Can u guess what kind of bug this is? I can't. Hubby says he has seen them outside but my problem is i have been finding them in my house all winter long and they always are near my cham cages. Today i found one inside the cage and it was eating or maybe just admiring his poop. First i don't want my cham to eat it and end up with parasites and also i used a pesticide under the heater where i thought they were making out in an effort to rid my house of these guys and now i really don't want my chams to eat them. They have ony gotten into the cages a couple of times but i have found them numerous times on the outside of their cages peeking in. Don't know if they are voyeours as well. Anybody know what it is? Any suggestions on how to get rid of the buggers? Ha ha.

I saw one of those too outside my front door.. Made me shut the door right away.. haha

Is it a YuckieBug? Yeah, lame joke. I'm tired too!

It does look a little like what the superworms turn into...I think I've seen smaller versions of those in my house but I can't be entirely sure.

The one I saw looks exactly like that is 2 inches.. Ewww..

Are superworm beetles that big?

I think it's more like a reduvid or an assassin bug. Photo is blurry, does it look something like this?

probably will be different species, since the above is from a site in UK, but at least we can narrow down the family. Reduvidae is a huge family. They may be trying to feed on your chameleons or on the crickets in the cage.

A lot of the assassin species feed on other insects, but some fancy a mammal once in a wihle. I was bitten several times while in Brazil. Reduvids give me the willies to be honest.

The bug in the photo could be a different one, though it's hard to say since it's so out of focus

Oh god, Debby, if that thing is what you've got, its time to sell the house and run for the hills!:eek::eek:

i think those are a bit too big for superworm bettle.
I saw them crawling all over my school yard.
I think they are stinkbugs.

Looks like some sort of beetle. Kind of like what a superworm turns into.

It looks like a superworm beetle to me, too. And, yes, I found one in an old superworm container (from last year still full of peat moss and had potatoes growing in it :) really!), and it was BIG.

this is the super beetle.

Ok.. now, i'm officially confused :p
are they the same? hmmm?

Thanks alot Dodolah. Now i'm confused. You had me going back and forth looking for the differences. lol. Looks the same to me and that is what the bug looks like. Sorry for the blurred pics. I asked him to stay still but he wasn't cooperating. So now what? Which one is it? And if it is a stinkbug, will it hurt my cham? Can he eat it? Or more importantly, how do i kill the buggers!!!!! Do you think a sign on the door saying "Exit" will help. lol

Hey Debbie...

It is hard to tell with the pic being a tad blurry... But the first thing that came to mind when I saw it was Superworm Beetle for sure. Also it is hard to tell becasue we can't get a good idea on size. But I had a case where a super container sat on it's side over night and the little bastards had chewed a hole big enough for 1 to crawl through in the lid, the first one crawled out and the rest followed single file....there were hundreds all over my room everywhere... I stripped the whole room down and thought I had got them all... Well about a month later we found a couple beetles in odd places of the room. They had escaped... found a spot, and pupated. If you feed supers, and ecspecially if you free range them in your cage I have a feeling you may have just had a couple supers pupate in your cage, or in a corner of your house somewhere. If this is what has happened you shouldn't have to worry about them reproducing and becoming a major pest just because the odds of them mating and finding a place in your house to lay eggs and make baby I think would be very minimal.

It would make sense for a cham keeper to find these around every once in a while.
My vote is for the Super Beetle!
