the baby Jax just turned 1 mo old, and they have gular edema - I have not given any sup/ ever - and I only use fresh veg/fr for gut load - any idea why they would be getting this so young- it is the " come and go " kind- I have also seen it off and on in the adult females ? never my male Jax, and they all eat the same bugs ??

Contrary to popular belief, hypovitaminosis can also cause edema.

I recently got a chameleon that suffered from hypovitaminosis of A and D. Within two days of heavy vitamin supplementation, there were no signs of edema. And I'm not talking about a little gular edema, this chameleon was so swollen that she had no coordination/grip and her body so round that she could roll. This chameleon that only weighed 17.5 grams lost 1.5 grams in water weight in two days.

There is sometimes a belief that with good enough light bulbs and good enough gut loading, they don't need any supplementation. Rarely is it ever true.

If you are seeing this with your adult females, especially when gravid, I would suspect hypovitaminosis.
