Gular Edema

summoner12...if you are referring to a veiled female that has been mated, it depends on when in the cycle she was mated. If the cycle is fairly far along then the female may "dump" the eggs sooner than the normal 30 or so days.

As in infertile. The next clutch could be all fertile or contain some fertile and some infertile eggs..and might be earlier than the 30ish days again.

Once they have laid that clutch, if you continue to mate the chameleon when she is receptive after every clutch (and I'm not saying you should or have to...just that if you do) from then on the eggs will be laid regularly (on a schedule) as a rule.

I mated my female 14-17 days prior to her laying a clutch of 44 eggs. So far only 12 eggs since Jan. 2nd have turned out 'bad'.

This last time around I did not mate her.... its been one week... so far no mold... we'll have to see how this clutch goes.

hello
i am not sure i am talking about the same thing, but occasionally some of my female panther showed swelling around the gular area, feeling soft at touch, like filled with liquid.this varies in size, and in periods.
a friend of mine with a non blood related specimen found the same swelling on one of his females. in both cases, the females were not pregnant nor receptive towards males, and didn't lay infertile egg clutches.
i ve been told that it's something happening during pregnancy,or due to over supllementation, but as i said, none of these animals were pregnants, and i don't integrate with vitamins in my pardalis diet .

the animals are still fine tho, they bask eat and breed, diet varies, but i could never associate the swelling to a particular kind of food.

any idea?

To those of you with chams that have edema, where are you getting your feeder from? It could be feeder related.

I have a wc ankaramy that gets edema from miner-all.

Brad, Ive been wondering why you stopped gutloading with carrots but dosed her with vit A?

One of the female tavetana seemed to have a touch of edema just before and after she laid. She is loking like normal now and I have not done anything different for her. I supplement very lightly and not "all the time" especially since I am dealing with mostly montanes at the moment. Just thought I would share this case and ask you a question;) BTW, great job on the veiled babies. They look great!!!!!!!

I have no scientific reasoning or method.
A well respected keeper suggested eliminating the carrots (no problem, lots more to gut load with)
Another asked if I had dosed with preformed Vit. A recently ... I hadn't and do throw it into the mix no more than once a month now ... but it had been at least 2 months, so I did that too.
See ... very unscientific, and whose to say that the edema would not have subsided without the changes (???)
I think pregnancy was the real culprit here.
Remember though that the A in carrots and preformed A are not the same thing.
Thanks for the compliment on the kids ... I will pass it on to them;)

I noticed today my Melleri has Gular edema all of a sudden , i have been using carrots, and tap water that sat out for a day and ghanns crickets, as well as no supplements but a good gut-load, I'm gonna remove carrots and start to supplement correctly, and use bottled water. I hope this corrects the problem, but i agree it seems little is known of the causes and the symptoms of this health problem. Ohh and i should mention i put him in the shower on a limb twice a week, till i get a mist king, i am currently using a spray bottle with day old tap-water, and the shower for hydration.
