gut-loading vs supplement...

Yes, as this product has D3 in it, no need for another one. Of course you need to also consider what you are gutloading with and what types of feeder prey you are using, but generally speaking, Plain calcium most days, your repton once a week or so.

Potato is not a great gutloading item BTW.

i'm going to pop to my local wholefoods store and see if i can grab some dry gutload ingredients.

in accordance with this supplement, what fresh food gut-load would you recommend?

the biggest problem for me is that i don't drive, i tend to go shopping once a month and most of these items won't last.

the only things from the list that my local shop (within walking distance) provides is collard greens, carrots, kale, oranges, apples, and strawberries.

i'm gonna find a member to buy some of the cricket crack dry mix from.

i just tried my local wholefoods store, they had less than half of the recommended dry foods, and, as it's a very upmarket store, it was extremely over-priced. i can't afford that sort of crap.

That's the same problem I ran into, I totaled up to over $75 by the end of the list.

You can buy cricket crack here: http://tikitikireptiles.com/products.php?id=48

I switch up my gut-loading weekly, this week I am using collard greens, carrots, oranges, and cricket crack.

I never said gutloading wasn't important, I was clearing up the misinformation. No need to get upset about it, but don't try to force others into following unnecessary gutloading techniques. Alternating fruits and veggies along with some dry food such as Cricket Crack is more than enough.

It is NOT misinformation. Misinformation would be saying UVB isn't needed, or glass cages can't be used because of reflections, or a "6 month expert" telling people that nutrition isn't important based on no personal experience to truly say that is the case. You've changed your story from "rely on fruits/veggies for gutloading and it's more than enough to keep a chameleon healthy" to "Alternating fruits and veggies along with some dry food such as Cricket Crack". How very convenient after several well respected members told you that you were wrong. Not to mention you've insulted me several times and I do not appreciate it. I never tried to force anyone to do anything btw. If you would go back and read and try to comprehend what I was saying I did not ever say he should go and amass the full recipe at any point. I was merely illustrating the variety of vitamins and nutrients that make a well-rounded diet that may not be present in a limited veggie-only diet.

Mr Fiddles - just try to incorporate SOME of the dry ingredients listed if you can't get cricket crack or a similar mix. Bee pollen has a lot of great vitamins in it so that combined with some uncooked sunflower seeds, alfalfa pellets and sushi wrap (the seaweed sheets) would be pretty inexpensive, last a while and add some great benefits to your gutloading.

No one has insulted you, and I never claimed nutrition was not important, stop trying to put words in my mouth. I never claimed I was an expert either, I have done plenty of research since you claimed I was gutloading incorrectly.

Seriously, get over it. New members don't need to be scared away with you telling them they need to hunt down obscure items to make a gutload, when it's not required, that is misinformation.

Everyone here has a right to their own opinion, and I suggest you keep yours to yourself if you're going to get this upset anytime someone disagrees with you. I don't appreciate your conceding and overall hostile tone

*sigh*. I guess it's time to quit the forums for a while if this is the crap people are spewing. It's too exhausting arguing common sense and I'm busy enough as it is. Peace out peeps.

Sorry if the "crap I am spewing" is not what what you want to hear, but at least on the upside now members won't be misled into believe false information.

Azjosh, why are you being so confrontational? It isn't misinformation to list lots of really excellent food ingredients for those memebers that actually want to learn different ways of gutloading. You certainly implied that you thought anything beyond a few veggies would be more than enough and you are arguing with people that know a lot more than you. It's like me arguing with a professional racer that my minivan tires are more than enough to race with. He will argue wi th me because my opinion is not just wrong, but probably dangerous. If you don't want to gut load thoroughly, then that is no one's business but your own, but you are the one that is confusing new members with your false accusations of misinformation. A toddler could tell you that the more variety of good food you eat, the better. I really don't understand why you're making a thing against valid recommmendations?

Sorry for any typos, I'm on my touch phone.

If you see their posts you would see I was not the one being confrontational.

I was simply trying to correct the information, the member is seemingly implying that what most members do for gutloading is incorrect and scaring them away from chameleon keeping.

I never claimed proper nutrition wasn't important.

ferrit and sandra have always provided what i belive to be very valuable information. i do belive that they do thing to the extreme in a positive way and that not all members can or will be able to keep up so to say, but if you can you wont be dissapointed..
i use the dry gutload recipe by sandra suggested by ferrit and it is great.. not cheap or easy but GREAT!!
chameleons are amaozing creatures and we made the decision to take them into our home and sometimes you just gotta do what is best for your cherished pet. i know i dont mind going the extra mile to keep them happy and healthy.

While I understand that, being a student, sometimes it's not doable spending $100 on health food store ingredients, there is no reason to discard the entire list of ingredients. They aren't saying that this is the only way and everyone else go to hell, they are merely providing a list of probably the top ingredients you could get your hands on. If you can only afford a handful of them, or a couple and mix them with a nice healthy cereal, then great. That's already better than nothing. I personally haven't gone out to get all the ingredients so I don't know what they cost together, but I do buy one or two if I see them in stores and add them to what I have made.

I'm not sure what you see as misinformation, because they haven't provided any. Misinformation would be to recommend using strawberry Jello as a complete nutritional food source, but Sandra and Ferret are providing you with lots of info, which you can pick and choose from given your budget or item availability.

2-3 food items is just simply not going to make a thorough gut load, and that's all any of us are trying to say. The more the better, and it's that simple. I'm sure there are many members that do just that, and while it may not perhaps be wrong (like you think we're saying), we think that it's just not ideal.

Don't we all prefer that our chams thrive instead of just survive?

Do you have any further questions we can help with Friddles?

at this moment, no, thanks.

i e-mailed tikitikireptiles.com re: their cricket crack to find out if they ship to the uk. if they do, i'll buy a couple bags/tubs and try to get a more thorough mix in my gut-load.

as olimpia so well put it, i'd rather they thrive than just survive.

Agreed.

No incorrect gutloading information was provided by Ferrit, IMHO.
