gutloading with kale

Thanks Sandra, I buy walnuts and almonds for myself to eat :)

Sunflower seed I can get too.

Is there a concern about the fat (oil) content of nuts?

Kale also Freezes pretty well:)
I also use something called Spirulina..I use it myself in my shakes in the morning.
It is an algae that comes in a powder form. I dip a piece of lettuce in it and the crickets go right for it.
It is considered a super food and a complete food source.
I highly recommend it...not only for chams but for humans!

Very smart! They have been including spirulina in fish food for a very long time to help prevent bacterial infections, ward off parasites, and enhance color. The reptile community has just started catching onto this in the past several years. Spirulina is excellent for the very reason you mentioned and why I include organic spirulina in my DinoFuel. Plus it aids in color enhancement, it's a natural anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, and antioxidant. Definitely a super food!

It's the good kind of fat. :) 80% of the nut is fat. Lots of Omega-3 fatty acids and Vit. E

agree - its good fat. Only a concern if eating loads of it, rather than as a part of a varied gutload.
the protein levels in most nuts can be high, so you want to consider that also

I used to do this, put it all in a food chopper, but I quit because it was always such a mess. There were always several dead cricks in it the next day! I guess they drown in it! stupid crickets!!

some folks report its best to thaw outside the cage (in the fridge perhaps), pour off excessive liquid, then give to crickets.

I don't see ppl around here buying much else but frozen dinners, pizza, potato chips and soda pop

LOL yikes

If you make sure your original blended mixture is not too wet, then even when it thaws it won't make a mess. I use the frozen cubes for certain sets of my feeders and it works great as long as your mix isn't too wet.
