Hanging Out with my Chams??

At some point in history, dogs weren´t animals that you played with and housed either.

Since some people have succesfully tamed lions, bears etc. I think that making a chameleon use to get out on your arm or something like that is perfectly normal. Even though it is not natural for them. It is not natural for them to be GIVEN food or even be in a enclosure. So why not? If you are not pushing your cham to get out I think it is pretty obvious that he likes to get out.

at all point in history dogs have been social animals and showing empathy to eachother, that wasn´t anything that human changed, what was changed was that they were moved to a human grup instead of other dogs/ wolfs.

and for the other one, 2 wrongs don't make a right, I could justify abuse to the animal the same way

All of the responces could be wrong. Nobody knows what they are thinking. Im pretty sure you guys just have boring chameleons.

we got the god d*am best chameleons, haven't you seen the classified of europe? those people understan a chameleon is a chameloen. this is an international forum and people of all the world hang here, so indeed will it be people who doesn't treat their chameleons in their proper way.

to treat a chameleon like a cat or a toy is just another example of too many people have chameleon, and some of them are to end up in inappropriate homes

While I agree that chams do not have emotions like a dog(or a bear) they are definitly intelligent creatures. They quickly learn that an open cage door leads to more places to roam. And ,in most cases, in time will learn to associate their human to food. While this is all entirely dependant an each and every chams personality, in time most can be handled if given the proper time and patience that they deserve. For the OP, odds are it is never going to just sit on your shoulder. It may allow you to place it on your shoulder so that it now has access to new space outside of its confined cage that it believes it can attempt to get to.

I agree with most of what you said, but chamelon don´t know what are best for them in captivity, that is the responsability of the owner to think for them

Here we have another case of Someone in Europe thinking they are better than people in the us. Obviously you don't understand anything anyone has said. Try telling that to people who love thier chams and apparently the chams say other wise. Your probly a loner over in stockholm, thats why you have all of the time in the world to troll on here. Everyone has thier right to an opinion but your taking it too far dude.

What happened to this thread? Can we stop playing "who has the bigger lizard" (euphemism) and go back to being civil to one another? Blarg.

OP: As you can see, there are a wide variety of opinions here. What I think everyone can agree on is chams are sensitive and they can get stressed easily. They are not cuddly pets, as you seem to understand, but that doesn't mean that we can't interact with them on a meaningful level, provided that it is appropriate and respectful to the animal. Many, many keepers here have had positive experiences with allowing their chams time outside their enclosure. However, you should absolutely decide for yourself what is in the best interest of your cham.

that´s the proper way to handle a chamelon, they are no toys for grown ups or teenagers, they a cage to simulate their natural environment, and island of their home in nature, where they should be keep

WoW to the original comment and WoW to this one lol My panther LOVES to come out with me! My Veiled Chams don't like it that much and I respect that but my panther is on the move to get out every evening when I go to mist and talk to them. Maybe a pet rock would be a good suggestion....
