Hard Green Lumps Fell out of Picassos Back!

So I know some of you know about my little Picasso and the horrible ordeal he's been healing from. Well, yesterday it was really sunny so I took him outside for some sun and as he was moving around on my hand rubbed his side (not on purpose) on my thumb and the, what I thought were sores, on his side literally rolled out of a perfectly round hole. The "sore" that came out was hard and green, like REALLY green, but not puss. Was just a little round green...ball. The hole left was kinda deep but inside looked like it was healing from underneath. Any ideas what that green ball is? Slowly but surely ALL the sores and bumps are turning out to be these weird green balls, ive never seen a scab like this before, it's almost like his body as it heals is pushing these things out and off. I dunno any ideas would help.

Chams produce pus that is solid, not the thin/thick liquid pus that we produce. When a Cham gets an abscess the contents usually have to be excised as it is thick/solid. I'm thinking that might be the case with you'd Cham. Perhaps one of the vets on here will reply. Is he on any meds?

Oooh, good to know, I figured puss was always the same, maybe that is what it is. Not on any meds yet, I just got him at the beginning of last week in TERRIBLE shape and made an appointment for the middle of next week at my herp vet so have been trying to nurse him back to health in the meantime. He's doing wonderful actually, he's eating and drinking ravenously now, active and alert and now the bumps he had all over are "falling out". Ive never rehabed a cham in quite this bad a shape so these green lumps are totally new to me.

It sounds as if you are doing a great job. I have followed your threads. I feel along with others that you would be best to keep your vet appointment. Take pics with you also it would be a good idea to take a fresh sample of poo with you. It's ok to keep it in fridge overnight if you don't think you will get a fresh one on the day. If you can keep one of the lumps for the vet to see it would be good. When I took Popeye to the vet I printed out the how to ask for help form which helped the vet see how he is being looked after. Good luck.:)

Thanks, it's amazing to me how quickly he bounced back with really minimal changes in his care, he really is a testament to proper cham husbandry. He's eating and drinking right from my hand now, and his colors get better everyday.

Here's a pic of the "hole" the green lump left after it fell out. Today it's completely healed over and so is where the other ones fell out. Also a new one of the bumps on his face that seem to be healing well too but im scared of those ones "falling out" because of the hole it'll leave. The lower of the two actually did fall out the night I brought him home and left a HUGE hole, which made me super nervous cause of where it is but luckily seems to have healed over really well. The wet look is just from misting, not from infection.

He was a little less then thrilled about having his picture taken so sorry for the blurriness. Been trying to document his recovery everyday to show the vet next week when I go it and I think Ill try n save one of the lumps like you said, if any more fall off for the vet too.

yes, like stated, save one of the "balls" if you can , it may be helpful for the vet to see it - my vet loves all the weird stuff I save for him- lol he is also a professor, so he keeps and uses all the strange stuff that rolls thew here - we are a 501, so its sad, but I get things with some weird stuff - and its great you are documenting all this- not only for you own records, but I know alot of ppl are following this, and learning from it - you are doing a WONDERFUL job :) keeping you and your little guy in my prayers and thoughts :)

Update

I think my still being a new mom has spilled over on Picasso cuz almost immediately I became fiercely attached to him. My husbands been grumbling at me last couple days cuz all my attention is either on our daughter or on Picasso right now. lol. I had really considered putting him to sleep the first night I brought him home though so you can imagine how massively relieved I am he is doing so well.

UPDATE: So yesterday I watched him rub that second huge bump on his face off. It was just like the little ones on his back, it was big, hard, and green and "rolled" out of the hole it had created but this was a bit bigger. I got really nervous because of where it was, was worried that the hole might have opened up a path into his sinus or something but after taking a good look it seems this one was more wide then deep. Still left a pretty significant hole but not life threatening so I put some antibiotic ointment on it and let him be. This morning he's already up and moving around his house but is a little on the dark side, I imagine his face, now that both bumps have fallen out, is pretty sore. I snap a pic after I have some coffee (can't believe I could even type tey...)

That is really interesting, be sure to let us know what the vet thinks these green balls are. Glad to hear his is still healing up and is making an excellent recovery so far! You are doing an amazing job helping him back to living a happy and healthy life again!

I remember when my son's turtle had this "growth" on the side of her head about the size of a pea also. We took her to the vet and it turned out to be an ear infection which he incised and the pus that came out was a hard ball but was yellow. In humans pus can sometimes be different colors depending on the bacteria the white cells were trying to kill. Maybe the color thing is the same but with the consistency difference. Picasso looks so much better than the first pictures you posted. He is very lucky you came along!

I love happy news. That poor thing looked so awful, and you have worked miracles for him. Proper care and love make such a difference.

Well, we will see today what those weird green balls were after his trip to the vet, I managed to save one of the bigger ones as well as a poop (yuck!). Ya shoulda seen the look on my husbands face last night when I was "collecting the specimen." lol. Anyway, hoping they don't charge me an arm and a leg but Ill figure it out if they do, Im starting school in the spring for a degree in vet tech and can't wait cuz it'll definitely cut down on our vet bills if I can get some kind of "employee discount". I take in needy animals all the time, often enough to my husbands dismay, so almost all of the little bit of money I bring in goes to the vet. This way Ill be able to help needy animals without ACTUALLY having to bring them home, and as you can probably imagine, the hubby is thrilled:)

Anyway, Ill let you all know what the vet says later on, gotta start packing him and the baby up, gonna be a loooong day:)
