Has anyone ever owned a quadricornis?

I google searched them and there were not many good results. On FL chams they were quite cheap (but also sold out) which struck me silly, because compared to more expensive types of chams (like parsons) they are much more.. well... Exotic. They have four horns, and a little fin. And pretty much a weird goatee, too.

Has anyone ever had one of these? And why are they so cheap if they're so cool looking? I would think that they would be a much more delicate kind of chameleon and hard to take care of.

Anyone had experience?

We have one a male and he is awesome. I got him from First Choice Reptiles last March, he was captive hatched from WC parents and he just turned 1yr this past Novemeber. They require the same care as any montane species of chameleon requires cooler temps and much higher humidity. Forum member Hoj put together a great care sheet on montanes and he also owns quads himself. We keep a repti-fogger in his cage to go off on a timer to keep humidty levels high and he loves that. They tend to be slow growers but as they approach the 1yr mark you will notice a considerable growth spurt in them and they are very docile and stunning to look at. Our guy doesn't mind being handled but he is still on the shy side but with a great personality.

Aww, how cool! I wonder why they're so inexpensive though. 130-40$ For that cool of a cham?

I thought they would have been grumpy chameleons because.. Well, they look like they don't want their perfectness to be messed with. :p

Coolness alone doesn't unfortunately have much of an effect on the price of chameleons. It's all about supply and demand, so if there is very little demand for quads then they will be worth very little when they are available. Where as there is a lot of demand for parsonii and people are willing to pay the $2-4,000 for one when they are available, so they sell like hot cakes.

There are a lot of underrated species losing out to overrated species but look at it this way, better for you if you want to get a group of them! You won't have to spend the price of a sedan to acquire them.

they are really cool i got a baby girl an been raisin her up,lol i hear ya on the slow grower but shes comin along.. I havent decided wether ima keep her or not yet but if i sell her she wouldnt be as cheap as your seein, there hasnt even been any quads imported for awhile not sure youd get em that cheap now..

There are some great midsized species of chameleons that are from Africa Trioceros quadricornis, T. deremensis, and Kinyongia matschiei plus many others. If you specifically want Trioceros quadricornis I read there are some hatching now. I would check the for sale section.

I LOVE QUADS! But every one knows that.:) I currently have 3 , and all are perfect. I will send you a link in a minute to a couple of my pictures. I will answer any questions about quads that I can.

How neat! I wonder if all of their 'tailfins' are as extravagant as they seem to be. Or do you have females?

Not to take the limelight away from quads but another impressive montane species is the sailfin chameleon. Google sailfin chameleon and look at the pic. They are another delight to own and the sailfin that runs along the back and tail is impressive.

I'm guessing sailfins are the ones with a huge fin accross their entire back, right? Google search included pictures of quads too, but those aren't sailfins!

They are pretty darn amazing :)

I had pair as a matter of fact they were my first chameleons . They are a much cooler species . You need a basking spot but your humidity has to be right . I had a reptifogger and more misting . I ended up trading them for a panther . But if you get one they are very nice good luck.

I have owned 4 quads and now down to 2 males. they are a very chill chameleon never seen any signs of aggression .

I use to have a pair, really calm and nice chamelons, the really like heavy misting/ rain, I think I notice with them is that they preferred to catch their food with their jaws instad of shooting their tongues

Wow, how cool. I've heard lots in this thread about the calmness.

I hope when I'm more experienced to get one of these buddies. :)
