Has anyone had any experience with abscesses?

You know my Jackson male had those absess on his shoulders they used a needle drained mostof it out and used antibiotics following that but he never did find out what was the cause it never went all the way away is he w.c. Mine was maybe had before I got him but he lived with me five years and he wasn't a baby when I got home r.i.p blue

I'm not too sure what W.C. is, and also we are not too sure of his age. He arrived at the pet store about a few weeks before I took him home from his conditions which were much less than ideal. He is almost his full-grown length though, so maybe that could be something we could take into consideration while guessing his age?

So maybe I should just go straight to draining them, huh? Or would it not hurt to run the course of the antibiotics for the 2 weeks? I am only on day number 2 out of 14.

IMO I would be guided by your vets advice on treatment, after all you sought his advice, paid for it and now your not sure if you want to take it! The abscesses may still need to be drained after the course of Baytral. Chams need lots of water while taking Baytral.
WC means wild caught.

In all honesty, the vet seemed pretty uncaring to me. I've spoken with a few vets since, all which seemed much more concerned than this one. I'm not sure I want to take it because no sample was taken, no recommendations of sampling, blood work, etc; nothing was asked, nothing was really done. Don't you see why I'm not sure?

He gets his dripper daily but perhaps I can up it to 2x daily. Nope, he's not WC.

I'm not a vet so I can just speak from experience. I think that they would do better if they were cleaned out first. If you just do the antibiotics and then they still need to be cleaned out you will have on do another course of antibiotics. Besides...If a culture and sensitivity test is done you will know what the best antibiotic is to use.

This is what I'm thinking, that's why I'm so weirded out by the vet treatment I received at the first place I went to...estimate for draining Max's abscesses: $90. An estimate I got at another vet (they won't drain without proper testing - blood tests, cultures, sampling, etc) - is a range of $350-$550 dollars, depending on sizes of abscesses, etc. I think my only choice is the second (more expensive) vet because the first one did not offer the testing. I am going to call them and speak with them about a plan of action.
