At the end of May I had my first CB tenuis hatch, here are some photo's from them.
First the eggs

And after the eggs, the juveniles

Yesterday when I was checking the clutches from my different breeding groups I notice that one egg of Kinyongia tenuis was cracked open.
When I took the container and have a better look, there was a little juvenile starring at me. Here are some photo's from that little one.

Notice the second egg, that has waterdrops(transpiretion) on it. This morning when I check the egg again it was cracked open, so I hope that it will be born/alive when I get home from work.
Here is a photo from a adult female and one of the juveniles from the first clutch.

Best regards

Congratulations. Did you hatch out five out of five? Everyone still doing okay?

Thank you all!
The first clutch was 5 eggs, three baby's hatch.
This clutch consist out of three eggs, one egg was bad and the two others came out and doing well. These two baby's eat and drinks good, so this will be okay.
I have at the moment from myself one cluch from 3 eggs, one egg is bad and the other two are okay.
In our breeding group(couple of friends) there are still 14 good eggs, so their is more to come (out).

We keep this species in breeding groups, groups of 1.3 or 1.4 animals together.

More details(incubation and others) will follow, but this will be in November because our La Reunion-Madagascar Expedition is in October.

Best regards

Wow you have wonderful little babies like that and you get to go to Masagascar??? Some guys have all the luck. Congratulations and bring back pictures from your trip.

Thanks for the info, Tom. If you dont mind I have a few more questions. Have you tried or know of anyone who keeps them separate? If so, have you noticed any differences breeding? Say ones kept together are more likely to breed then ones that are kept separate? I am always reluctant to keep any species housed together especially when first working with them.

Also, how long after egg laying do you see the females to become receptive to breeding again? I have heard gestation is around 4 months. Is this true?

Thanks for your time and I am looking forward to your next post:)

Have fun on your trip!

I will anwser this, because Tom is in Madagascar right now and we have a breeding program going on regarding this species. When housed together in a small group (1.2-1.3) and a fairly larger enclosure, they will breed more and produce more clutches it seems. I would say a normal gestation would be anything between 2-4 months. I had 3 clutches from the same female in about 8 months time. I know Tom had a female pregnant for more then 4 months though. I would keep this species around 22°C ambient temperature and locally some small spots that go to 28°C (in a large and well ventilated enclosure!). A group of 1.4 gave me around 25 eggs altough a few eggs were lost during incubation (6 eggs).

Thanks, Joery

I would love to see some pictures of your set up. Do you notice them sharing the hot spots at the same time? Any signs of dominance? And do the males stay away from the females when they are gravid?

I have 2 males that are deathly afraid of a female. She walks around like nothing is going on and the males are trying to stay as far away as possible and also firing up at the female.

I am keeping mine separated and only introducing the female to the male and or male to female. I am beginning to think (purely speculation) that the reason they can be housed together successfully is because the males know to stay away from the females when unreceptive. Which more then likely the female I have is still unreceptive.

I've been having the same problem with my male. The female is calm, and the male may seem interested for a few minutes but then gets upset. I will likely introduce them again today or tomorrow, as I haven't tried in a bit.

How big is your enclosure for such a group?

1m20 x 1m20 x 2m50 (large ficus tree, check my setups in the setups section ;) (search for "phelsuma")

Yeah, I have several of these setups ;)
I keep 1.4 cristatus in such a setup also without a problem (animals are approximately 1 year old now and between 20-25cm)

very nice.
Do you plan on going to houten/nijmegen or hamm?
I'd like to meet you if that's possible as I'm not sure if we know eachother.

Do you keep your campani/tenue and sternfeldi in 1 setup?
