Hatchling Uthmoelleri at Last!!!!!!

It's been like watching paint dry, age and peel with regard to a clutch of NINE K. Uthmoelleri eggs that was laid April 4 of 2009. The eggs looked great and swelled four times their original size. I could see dark little bodies in the eggs so I thought they were good. Yesterday I did my daily check expecting to be disappointed in their status as usual. But.........yesterday there was a new hatchling! Out of the egg and walking around! Here we go:

My pictures aren't the best. Royden will be coming over the weekend after this weekend so he can take some better pictures. I hope to have other hatchlings by then. This little one appears to be a male due to the larger appearance of the casque. Females have a very flat casque. Males have a very exagerated "puffy" looking casque. Today this hatchling already appears to have a "puffy" looking casque for it's size. It's super talented at giving me the stink eye already. I've got 7 more good eggs to hatch. One of the 9 went bad early on.

Say a few prayers for this little one. I'm really hoping for some success in breeding this species :p

Anything that looks that sweet has to be fine. His brother and sisters won't want to be left behind and healthy little ones will be out soon. Congrats on this one.

I wish I had a Royden to come take chameleon photos for me. ;)

Congratulations on the beebees. That's exciting news.

Congrats, they look great!!! Good luck with them, I can't wait for updates on the others! Let me know if you let any go down the line!

Since the only thing I've ever hatched is pygmies, I just can't get over the length of the tails on other neonates. Best of luck to Mr. K. uthmoelleri and his siblings!

This is great news Catherine! I know how hard you've been working to get some hatchings from this species. Job well done I'd say!

Hell yeah!!!!!

That is great news!!!!!:D SUPER CONGRATS!!!!!! I hope the other 7 make it out alright. I also hope you have an extra female you need to get rid off;)

LOL!! I got very excited when I saw the thread. Almost as if they were hatching here hahahaha:D

Thanks :)

Thanks for all the Congrats! The mom of this little one dropped a couple of infertile eggs in her cage today. She didn't have gravid colors and was not fat either. I saved the eggs but I'm pretty sure they are infertile. The first couple of Uthmoelleri clutches I got (different females) went bad after a month. They looked like the eggs that were dropped today, smaller and oblong in shape. It wasn't until after the clutch that is now hatching was laid that I realized the first clutches must have been infertile. The fertile clutch eggs were twice as big and very round in shape. I'll snap more pictures when more eggs hatch. I'll be holding my breath until I see the first tiny poop from the first hatchling. I'll be so excited to see that, I'll probably post a photo of it :p

LOL good luck with them, they are awesome.

Another egg is hatching :)

I looked at the eggs first thing this morning and one more baby has pipped it's egg and has it's head poking out. I hope it will be a little girl for Jared :) The first hatchling cruised it's cage all day and was very active. I'm pretty convinced that its a male. Today is the day it should start to eat.
