Hatchling Uthmoelleri at Last!!!!!!

Uthmoelleri Baby Update....

Out of the six eggs that hatched I have three left. They seem to be doing well. I still don't feel comfortable putting them in an adult cage yet. I've got them in a clear "Critter Keeper" with a flat screen top and a Reptisun 5.0 on top. They've got fake foliage and some bendable branches. I took some pictures of the three tonight. I was in a bit of a hurry so they are on their fake foliage/branch stuff after it was cleaned. Not the most professional photos but oh, well.......

The "alpha" male is very patterned and has a great casque. He's very shy outside his cage though:

I believe this one is a second male. He is the same size as the female and has more of a solid color to him but some pattern comes out once and awhile. I've considered that he might feeled threatened by the other male. He doesn't seem to be though. They hang out together and he has no trouble going for food and eating as much as he wants. I'm still considering separating him. But I've observed with the adults that they seem to enjoy company. So I'm still thinking about it.

The female is a very pretty minty green. She is also shy outside the cage. She has beautiful mint green spots on her head that don't really show in this photo:

Their sire Calypso has become a very substantial male. I'll have to post updated pictures of him later. He is absolutely stunning with a beautiful "puffy" looking casque.

I feel that they need to be a bit bigger before I put them in a real screen cage. They are still pretty small and I just don't want them to struggle finding crickets in a bigger cage. They have lots of room in the present cage and can have separate areas if they want to. It also really keeps the humidity in.

Its about time!!!

They look great!!! Its funny you say they like company. My two males will sorta hang out in the fronts of their cage if I forget to put the blocker back up on the small males cage after doing whatever. They seem to just sit and watch each other with no signs of one being stressed or territorial displays. The old male does not seem to recognize him as a female either. No courtship routine etc. However the small guy might be half the size of the older one.

I dont know what to tell you about the second one, of course:p

Calypso.......

Calypso is the male we had outside. He has doubled in size. He is so much more macho looking now. It would be fun to have you photograph him when you come over in February and then compare photos.

Way to go Catherine! That is great that you have at least the 3 looking healthy. That female will be worth her weight in gold...keep it up!!

Sigh..........

Geez that's a good picture Royden. I forgot how good it was. That's why I get so depressed when I try and take my own pictures. I never feel like I do them any justice. Calypso is a stud. He's gotten a lot more tame since that photo shoot too.

Yes, CNorton, I am really hoping that little female makes it. Calypso has no mate. Egg laying seems to be very hard on this species. You should see the egg size in comparison to the female's size. I should have taken a picture of the mommy next to the six eggs. It was pretty unbelievable. I was really hoping to give Jared one. He's got some lonely boys too :(
