I got some hatchrite today and it feel like styrofoam pellets through the bag, i havent opened it yet im waiting on my cham to lay, is it supposed to feel like that when you squeeze the bag? I was expecting something wet and moist feeling?

Yup feels just like that. Hatchrite uses crushed "water crystals" to manage moisture. The same crystals people use for feeders.

Initial use right out of a sealed bag has always been fine for me. You will have to monitor it and add water when necessary.

You will see how it feels and will be able to tell when its "dry". You will want to monitor humidity.

so will i have to add water or is it good to go out of the bag

Actually no! That's not right at all. Hatchrite is more like vermiculite and the water crystals are a polymer that is gel-like in texture.

what would you recomend to monitor the humidity, is just a guage left in the shoe box fine and what humidity level is good for veiled eggs.
