Have I got something wrong?

My 5 month old male veiled seems to always stay dark colours. His basking temp is 86 degrees, new uvb reprising 5.0. The ambient temp is at 72 degrees. I mist 3 times a day. He hasn't large live sheflerra plant. 12 small crickets are dusted everyday with calcium(w/o d3) and the d3 twice a month. He also gets a multi vit 2 a month. Just needing some input

Is he dark all the time or only when he's basking. It's normal for them to go dark when trying to get more heat, dark colors absorb more light/heat.

He's dark all the time unless he's sleeping. I measure all the temps with a temp gun I attached an image of him right now he's just under the uv all the time too

Maybe check with a different temperature reading device?
I know males like the heat higher when they are adults (90-95F).

Is there anything in his cage he dislikes? Mine will turn black if I walk close to her cage alot. Also if I wear dark blue.

I checked with my hydrotherm digital and it read the same the minute I opened the door to his cage he brightened right up and climbed out onto my hand

The cage is 2'x2'4' I think I found my problem the sheflerra plant is so dense it takes up the whole cage pretty well and my cam can't really utilize the area so I think he can't properally thermal regulate. I just put this cage together now 18x18x36 (shown in picture. I may move him over tommorow). I have a 3'x3'x7' cage in the building process for when he's an adult

Is he seeing something that is stressing him? It might be related to what he sees or what is going on outside his cage. Even a caged bird he can see might stress him out.

Other chameleons near by can stress out chams a lot too. I had to separate my two cages about 20 ft when I got my Jackson because my young veil was acting differebt

He spends allot of time climbing the screen door and when I go to open the door(when he's not on it) he runs for the exit

Sorry for all the posts he seems good now I moved him to the other cage and his black stress marks went away

Thank every one for the advice it's really appreciated.
I moved him to a large cage 4'x3'x4'(LWH) that was almost two weeks now but he stays darker greens and Browns all the pictures I see on here their male veiled a have beautiful colors.

Many veileds go through a brownish phase at about 6 months of age. As his hormones stabilize he should turn green again. What color does he stay while asleep?

He lightens up a bit more. On another note should I be running my hhumidifyer at night? The room drops to about 45%

I noticed a wild caught quad brightened up as soon as I treated him for parasites. He had been a darker mossy color, but immediately changed to a brighter green after I gave him Panacur.

Have you had a fecal done?

I would suggest that a juvenile cbb veiled isn't going to have the heavy and diverse parasite load a recently imported quad might. Most chams will have some, but I doubt it would be affecting his coloration at this age.

Three sides are wood whole front screen. The top is a sheet of that plastic square mesh(1/2" squares)

And no I have never gotten a fecal done for him.
