Heat bulbs on screen top

Hey Gang,

I had a question about lights on a screen top. Does anyone use a higher watt bulb when on top of a screen? I know you should with UVB as the screen can take away form the light, is it the same for heat bulbs? I heard a 60 watt would be fine ( and one came with my screen cage) but I find I have to use a 100 to keep basking to 85-90.

Thanks in advance,
Eddie

There really isn't a "correct" wattage to use. Whatever bulb gets you to the correct basking temperature is the one you should use. I would alook try to keep the heating bulb off of the screen. Sometimes chameleons will cling to the screen top and burn themselves. I keep mine about 6-7 inches away just in case.

Use a accurate temp gun and make that basking temp 85F,find the right wattage light bulb accordingly cause ur room temperature are a major factor also.

My room temp atm is 66 degrees ands its 10:10pm. I live in Eastern Canada and its pretty chilly out but my living room where she is is a decent temp.

I can get 85 its just with the screen top its from a 100w bulb and I dont wanna overheat her... I'm gonna go looking at temp guns tomorrow cause i;m not convinced with the "dongle" wired temp gauge the kit came with.

You are more than welcome, also the distance between ur vine or stick basking spot can play a major role and safety on your precious cham, heat bulb are on top ur cage, but distance in between can be adjust accordingly :)
