Heat Mat?

For those of you who have automatic misters and no drainage, do you recommend a heat mat to dry up the newspaper at the bottom.. mine tends to soak too much after a spraying session. I'm just trying to think of alternatives to drainage at the moment but not sure if a heat mat would be a good choice. Any ideas?

i would suggest creating some sort of drainage system. makes life alot easier. otherwise you would have to regularly change out the newspaper. you don't want soaked newspaper sitting in the bottom of the cage too long as it can harbor bacteria and mold. a heat mat seems kind of pointless to me. check out the other thread on drainage for some good, cheap and easy ideas :)

i used newspaper at first, and at night i would point a small fan across the cage floor to help dry it out, which helped me keep it in there for more than a day at a time, but seriously, having a good drainage system makes life soooo much easier :)

Problem with this is that heating it enough to dry the newspaper will also destroy the temp and humidity gradient the cham needs. Sort of defeats the whole purpose. Just drain your cage.

You got a good point there. I would not want to ruin the gradient levels. I will keep it as is and just drill a hole. Thanks!

Not trying to be a smart.... but do you really want an electrical gadget in water inside a metal cage?

Good idea to drill the holes :):D

on the bottom of my cage instead of it being the piece of plastic that they gave me with the cage that is still there they sell in pet stores like a greenish colored what i call it reptile rug lol there on the bottom of both of my cages you can wash them and re use them over and over and it will soak up any water from your spraying sessions =) hope this help's i just can remember the name of them atm o_O
