Heat Rock?

My Auntie thinks that a heat rock would be great for my 2/3 month old Panther.

Now do you think he will even be attracted to it, because i honestly don't and i don't fancey loosing a bet?

Also will it be safe as i dont want him getting injured?

The heat rock is a big no-no for chams. Heat mats aren't required either! TBoth can burn the chameleon's feet. They get all the heat they need from their basking lights.

Yep that's me! I'm also on RFUK! I replied to your post on there too! Please don't give your cham that heat rock. They hardly ever go to the bottom of the cae anyway, so it'll be a complete waste of money!

Thats why i was confident of putting a grand on it. Im going keep the rock she has brought and when i can afford i might get a beardie. Think there beauts.

Thanks again

Heat rocks aren't good for beardies either. They cannot feel heat from their tummies, so they don't know how hot something is when they are laying on it. I wouldn't suggest a heat rock or pad for any type of reptile, due to the burns.

Absolutely NO heat rock!

Panther's don't like to be that hot anyway and they live in the trees.
Heat rocks may work for some desert species (which a panther is certainly not)
Personally I wouldn't use one with any animal.

Really? thanks for that i have done some research and well they said they would be ok, looks like it'll be another unused item.

Thanks again..

In nature for aboreal animals, like chameleons, heat comes from the sun shining down, not hot rocks radiating upwards.
