why not focus heat via a conductive source rather than convective/radiative?
You just don't get it, do you? The reason why you would not do that, is because chameleons DON'T WORK THAT WAY.
Why would they bother with the whole colour changing morphology if they were just going to absorb heat from branches through their belly? (They go darker to absorb more heat from the sun).
Why would they flatten themselves side-on to the sunlight so that they increase the surface area for heat absorption?
Have you ever actually observed a chameleon?
