Heating, lighting & UVB options - advise needed

Are you pushing this care sheet because there's a tab that takes you to where you can purchase chams and ultimately you're just trying to make a buck? So really it has nothing to do about offering advice but more about making sales.

I was providing information. You provided

You spent the time to post 5 useless comments in 5 different blogs...enough said!

Whats he selling??Scooby Doo cookies door to door ....thread by thread:rolleyes:

I wouldn't say my comments are useless. You post with the guise of altruism but really you're a grifter trying to sell chams. Do it the right way and post in the market section.

Why do you "need" to use a controller to maintain temps?

I like the fact that I can maintain a specific temp without constantly adjusting the height of a heat source.

From what high temp to what low temp does the house go during the day?

My best guesstimate in the winter time (now) I leave in the am for work and it's about 67. It drops to about 60 at worst until it comes back up to about 65 around 3pm then up to about 66-67 around 5pm. So I'm looking at a potential 7-8 degress change. This could mean the difference between 80 and 90 degrees in the terrarium. As I said before, a space heater is not an option, so I need to auto regulate the temp.

"Terrariums work fine for Chameleons". That's not an accurate statement, wh...............crap statement removed for clarity................

I know you had 1 Chameleon before and it lived 5 years, but that's actually not long for a Male Panther - that's just average with minimal effort.

Please just go away. If I could block you from posting on my threads I would . Everything you say is filled with a sense of arrogance and condemnation.

I would then use a fluorescent with a daylight heat source. I would not be turning the bulbs on and off throughout the day but rather adjusting the heights in the cage and wattages until you got what you wanted.
If no one is home to adjust the lamp (and no one is) then the temp will be too low or too high, The house has a temp swing of 7-8 degrees.

Why do you "need" to use a controller to maintain temps?
Two reasons, 1. no one is home to change it and 2. We had a fire once. We have a standing rule no space heaters said the boss. And so it shall be...

I wonder if there is a certain wattage incandescent bulb that would give you a sweet spot, where a temp swing wouldn't bring it too low or too high. Do you have a way to record the temps during the day while you're not home? Do you have any fixtures laying around that you can experiment with?

This "Staff Member" has no idea what he/she is talking about. A Fan blowing IN is the absolute BEST option for a Veiled that's forced to live in a Terrarium (I'm assuming you're setting this up for a Veiled because you never gave specifics and your picture is of one). You are going to have potentially too much moisture/humidity/stagnant air and a fan blowing up will not increase airflow, but will rather recirculate air at the top. Just make sure your fan isn't on it's basking spot.
First off a Exo- Terra tank has ALOT of airflow from the chimmey effect the vents at the bottom and a screened top causes. The STAFF member knows what he is talking about. You need to do your research before you give yours. I have a orange crush veiled in a Exo_Terra 36Lx18WX36 H for 3 years with no problems at all. Healthy as hell

That's a very good thought. (y) I do have a way to record just that. I also have many (15-20) different bulbs from 40W to 150W (bought several before they were hard to find). I can definitely test. I have always had a digital temp and humidity sensor that remotely sends the info to a main unit: https://www.amazon.com/Ambient-Weat...pons&keywords=temp+and+humidity+monitor&psc=1

I have this unit along with 8 of the sensors.

I can see lows and high for both temp and humidity. This is how I know what my house temp swing is.

Really? :ROFLMAO: Sorry it went to that extreme.

Ok, so I have made a decision on part of my original question and took the plunge. I purchased this about 3 hours ago:

  • I like the low profile, my controller can easily rest on top of it and still be accessible. My T5 hood I currently have over 3x as tall so I always had to stretch to reach the controller.
  • I also like the fact it has red LED's for plant growth
  • It comes with a new 5.0 UVB/ AVB bulb. (I needed a new one anyways)
I grabbed it when I saw it was going for $85. (Its currently about $105) I will try this as my lighting and UVB solution. So now I need to work the heating. I'm need to test the ceramic heater or an incandescent bulb options. I will fiddle with these options once my hood arrives Saturday. (y) I

Thanks to the forum and all the good comments. I would not have known about the RED LEDs or this fixture had it not been from someone here on the forum. THANK YOU.

Now I need to get back to my heat issue..... (Then my misting issue, but that's another thread.)

It's probably should be pretty obvious, but I'm expecting a special overnight delivery of pure PANTHER joy next week (the 23rd to be exact!) to arrive and I want to have all this ready and running for the little guy a few days before he arrives. He is coming from a forum sponsor as well rather than the local Reptile show. I'm really excited about that and the fact he's coming from a quality breeder. I will do a proper unveiling of him and all that good stuff then. :p

I've thought about getting a similar thermometer with remote sensors. I may just have to get one. I like the thought of being able to track the temps and humidity range.

Let us know how you like the UVB and Led light combo. Sounds like the perfect solution for plant live and uvb.

Good luck with your testing of the basking bulbs, I have no doubt you will figure it out. :)
